Are you ready to go beyond? Only the most experienced guides in Iceland can run these tours. Prepare yourself to get on the edge, literally. You can learn how to abseil down, ice climb and traverse through fixed lines on exposed terrain. Our expert guides will teach you how to use the ropes and the technical gear. This tour can be extremely challenging or easy enough, we will adapt the difficulty according to your level. This remarkable experience will be something you will never forget. While the other tours keep you away from formations such as crevasses and moulins, here it is our aim to go and check them out. In order to achieve this we will use ropes to put you on the edge! These formations can be awe-inspiring and formidable, but our expert guides will ensure your safety and enjoyment. We have great respect for our environment and the history of Iceland. Our guides love sharing their knowledge and stories, so we invite you to join us to make the most of your Iceland trip.

How to find us an the Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot: - We are not in the main building. - Look for the guide in orange jacket with the logo. - We will have two benches with sheepskin fur on them placed at the back of our vehicle.

Itinerary

Go beyond, and explore the glacier with no limits on our 4-5 hours long extreme tour. PRIVATE TOUR - Only you and your close ones! Only the most experienced certified guides in Iceland can run these tours. Prepare yourself to get on the edge, literally, things you could do include rappelling down, ice climbing, and traversing through fixed lines. Our expert guides will teach you how to use the ropes and the technical gear. This tour can be extremely challenging or easy enough, we will adapt the difficulty according to your level. Since this is a private tour the pace of the hike through the glacier is matched to everybody's abilities and fitness. This remarkable experience will be something you will never forget. We provide all the safety gear necessary: crampons, harnesses, helmets, ice axes, and hiking poles. We encourage our guests to bring worn-in hiking boots, gloves, and insulating and waterproof layers. The weather is usually not working in our favor in Iceland, wind and precipitation can be expected some days.

You will be so happy you did it!!!

Wow!!! What an amazing experience! Our family (including two kids in college) loved it and Lucas, our guide. He built our trust super fast such that we followed his lead and did new things way out of comfort zones. He is very knowledgeable, taught us so much about glaciers and this area. He always kept us safe and did a fabulous job of reading our abilities and comfort level to create a personalized experience. We came to learn he is an industrial engineer by education. He applied his intellect and skills so perfectly to being meticulous in caring for our family’s safety while creating such a memorable time for us. This experience will be the one we all talk about the most from our 9 days in Iceland. It is worth the money if you want adventure!! we will telling all our friends about Lucas and Glacier Encounters. You won’t regret it!!

When you meet Lucas its as if you walk into an Italian restaurant with Grandma Lucia shouting from behind the kitchen somewhere in Napoli. You know you will be in great hands. And it was truly an awesome experience. Great tour and great tour guide.

Ice Cave Adventure

I went walking on the glacier with Jökull and Lucas.. I have no words to describe it, we went into an ice cave, walked inside the crevasse, we did a rope descent into an ice hole, it was certainly a great adventure!! For Lucas and Jökull there is no lack of knowledge, they explained everything about the area, the ice, local stories! It was a lot of fun and the whole time I felt very safe. I definitely recommend these two!! Thanks

Great private tour!

We had a wonderful time with our guide, Lucas. He led us to parts of the glacier that were away from the big tour groups so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. He led us into ice caves, let us try ice climbing, and challenged us (but only as much as we wanted) while keeping us safe. Totally satisfied with the tour — it was the highlight of our trip to Iceland!

What an amazing tour we had with glacier encounter on Friday 16 February 2024. Jökull guided us over the ice mountains, through ice holes and caves and learned us ice climbing, gliding, abseiling and hiking techniques.
