Overview

Visit this truly unique Ice Cave underneath Katla volcano also known as the "Dragon Glass" Ice Cave. Witness the breathtaking combination of fire and ice inside one of the rarest natural phenomenon. Join us on a Super Jeep up to the glacier, driving through scenic views of what looks like Moss Wonderland. Once you enter a natural ice cave. You'll feel like you are take a sneek peek into the highlands as you enjoy the ride all the way inside the country admiring the majestic mountains and fields of moss.

    The view inside the Ice Cave is truly spectacular the combination of the colors of the ice, you will get the chance to see some amazing black ice as well as some blue ice features. The Katla Ice Cave is truly unique. The ice cave is located in Kötlujökull Glacier which is an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier. Underneath the glacier waits the mighty volcano Katla where the both the glacier and the ice cave takes their name from. The tour departs from the village of Vík where you will hop on a Super Jeep that takes you up to the ice cave. There you will put on crampons and a helmet to prepare you to walk inside the natural ice cave. Your expert guide will inform you all about the glacier and how the ice cave is formed by mother nature. - The Meeting point is at the parking lot of The Soup Company restaurant in Vík. - Driving time to Vík from Reykjavík is around 2 hours and 30 minutes in good road conditions. Please note that if you arrive after departure time, your place on the tour can't be guaranteed or refunded.

Breathtaking

What a fantastic experience, we will remember this forever. The scenery was breathtaking. I could have watched the waves at the beach forever… and I don’t even have words to describe the glacier and ice cave. The pick up was easy and the bus extremely comfortable. Iskren’s knowledge and commentary made the trip - I have learnt a lot from him and was inspired to order a book on Icelandic folklore before I was even off the bus. Thank you

Fun and Beautiful

This tour is worth the time and money! The caves are an otherworldly like of beautiful and Our guide, Kuba was phenomenal. He was so kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. He taught us about the formation of the ice caves and the relationship between the volcanoes and glaciers. Pro Tip: bring protective eyewear - Like the silly ones snowboarders wear. I wear contact lenses while traveling and wish I had some. The wind and snow has bits of volcanic ash in it which will irritate your eyes while you’re sightseeing Note: we weren’t aware of how fast the landscape changes so if you’re going to the caves hoping to see the exact caves you saw last week or even last month in photos they might not be there but it’s still incredible and worth seeing time and time again

Svein bjorn was a lovely guy. He explained to us a lot of the history of the country along our trip to the black beach, Katla ice cave and the waterfalls. It was awesome day!

Took this tour this morning with Jake at Troll expeditions and it was amazing! The light from the rising sun at 9:30 was beautiful on all the snow. Jake was very knowledgeable about the glacier and the area and had lots of recommendations! Highly recommended!!!
