Overview

Located along the Douro River estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centers, and its core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, as the "Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar". The historic area is also a National Monument of Portugal. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name Portugal, based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. 180 degree turn around experience

What a wonderful trip we had with our tour guide! Joao was nothing short of excellent and extraordinary! His knowledge of the history of Porto, of Portugal in general and an awareness of the rest of world is genuinely appreciated. He was caring to us especially to my wife who is disabled. On a previous day we got a bit with Porto from the hop-n-hopoff tours. Joao changed that impression 180 degree around. We ended the day with a fulfillment we were expecting in Porto.

I had a full day trip with Jorge Costa from Porto and two stops at Alveiro and Óbidos. I had a great time. Traveling with Jorge is like knowing him forever. He is friendly, knowledgeable, patient and an excellent driver. Doing a trip with him is a warranty of a delightful time wherever the destination in Portugal you choose. N.V.

Lisbon to Porto

My husband and I booked a private tour of Porto from Lisbon. Jose picked us up promptly at out hotel. The van was clean and comfortable, and water bottles were available as needed. As we toured Porto and the different sites were pointed out to us, Jose constantly asked if we wanted more time to explore a specific site, or if there was anything in particular we wanted to do. It was a custom-made tour! We had the famous Francesinha sandwich at Brasao Aliados. Delicious. On the way back to Lisbon we stopped at Aveiro and enjoyed a canal tour and watched a beautiful sunset in the beachside town of Costa Nova. It's a full day to and from Lisbon, but worth it. Thank you, Jose!

We really loved our day trip to Porto from Lisbon. Our guides Jose and Nuno were very kind and knowledgeable, they made sure we were comfortable throughout the day even when it was raining. Their recommendations for restaurants and shopping were spot on. Porto is beautiful and it was memorable experience.
