Overview

Check off two UNESCO-listed wonders on this full-day tour from Rome: the mighty ruins of Pompeii and the idyllic Amalfi Coast. First, you’ll discover the relics of one of ancient Rome’s most important cities as you explore the remarkably preserved streets of Pompeii with an expert archaeologist. Then, soak up the scenery along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast and stop for lunch (at your own expense) in the picturesque village of Positano.

Meeting points

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your tour, your guide will be holding a green Walks sign. This tour meets at Piazzale Flaminio, 15, 00196 Roma RM, in front of the McDonald's Restaurant on the corner of the square.

    Meet your tour leader in central Rome and hop aboard a private, air-conditioned bus—the most comfortable way to navigate the jaw-dropping drive that awaits.

  • Pompeii Archaeological Park

    Wander the fully preserved streets of Pompeii on a guided tour with an archaeologist who specializes in this ancient city. This thriving port town was frozen in time when it was engulfed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. View the death casts of people caught in the eruption and peek into shops, temples, public baths, and maybe even a brothel (if suitable for the group).

  • Amalfi Coast

    After Pompeii, it’s back onto the bus for one of the most unforgettable drives of your life down the hairpin turns and panoramic vistas of the Amalfi coast. It won’t take long for you to see why this is considered Italy’s most scenic drive (although certainly not the easiest to navigate—you’ll be glad you have a professional driver!).

    Following in the footsteps of literary greats like Shelley, Goethe and Steinbeck, you’ll be free to explore this breathtaking little town on foot, sampling its incredible seafood, browsing the fashionable boutiques, or ordering bespoke, handmade sandals. *Please note: In the low season (November through late March), most of the businesses in Positano town close, making the town rather uneventful to visit. During this time, we will visit the town of Amalfi or Sorrento instead, where you'll have plenty of options for lunch and shopping. During the weekends in the high season (May-September) we will also visit beautiful Sorrento instead of Positano.

This tour was very good! The team at The Walks made this trip run smoothly and I would particularly like to thank Cosimo for being a very personable and friendly tour leader. He was fun, knowledgeable and clear which is what you want on a tour that lasts 12 hours so it was very enjoyable! I personally loved the guided tour of Pompeii with our guide, Francesca. She was approachable and an expert archaeologist so I learnt a lot! We were also taken to the town of Sorrento and given 2 hours to roam around. I would recommend this tour for anyone looking to learn about Italy and Pompeii and/or anyone who wants an stress-free yet informative vacation day.
