Itinerary

  • National Park of Palenque

You will be picked up early in the morning and transferred to Agua Azul where you will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to freely explore this beautiful area. Then you will be transferred to Misol-ha where you will spend 30 minutes. The last stop will be at the Palenque ruins. You will have 2 hours to visit these beautiful ruins hidden in the jungle on your own. After visiting Palenque, you will return to San Cristobal and will be back at around 10:00 p.m., so be prepared for a very long, but VERY exciting and beautiful day! Palenque Ruins: The ancient Mayan city of Palenque is one of Mexico's most breath-taking archaeological parks surrounded by lush tropical forest and jungle. This site has a serene, mystical atmosphere. From the moment you enter, you feel engulfed by a sense of history, timelessness and awe. Explore the site on foot and climb up the pyramids for great views of the ancient city and the jungle. (approx. 2 hours) Agua Azul Waterfalls: Rio Xumul-Ha (meaning River of Blue Water, or in Spanish, Agua Azul) features a series of torrential cascades and fast flowing waters rolling down a limestone ridge to form pools and small streams. Take a one-hour walk next to the falls in the breath-taking green valley and swim in one of the calm parts of the refreshing blue river. (approx. 60 - 90 minutes) Misol-Ha Waterfall: River Misol-Ha (meaning "Streaming Water"), in the "Chol Maya" tribe area of Chiapas, creates one of the state's most wonderful natural sights as the river glides off the edge of a cliff and 40 meters down into a deep pool of water surrounded by lush vegetation. Swim in the deliciously refreshing water and be impressed by the sight of the fall from below. A small walkway will take you behind the water curtain created by the waterfall where you can walk inside the caves. (approx. 30 - 45 minutes)

Long but worth it!

Published on Feb, 2020

Our guide Ramon was amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable. He definitely made the tour enjoyable. It was a LONG day but afterwards, there were zero regrets. Every scene was beautiful and the piece of history we took home with us is unmeasurable. Highly recommend this tour!

Amazing viewsites.

Visiting the waterfalls and the Palenque ruins when you're in Chiapas is something you can't miss. It is a long and tiring day, the road is bumpy, and yes you will have to wake up early, but it is unforgettable. I had been to Chichen Itza, but I personally was more amazed by the Palenque ruins. When you reach the Agua Azul waterfall, walk up the path to swim in the upwards pools. I'd recommend waiting to get to San Cristobal de las Casas to book the tour with one of the many operators on the main street to avoid paying commission fees.

Lovely but tiring

Great tour, great guide. Was the perfect package for us as we only had one day to visit these 3 locations. The only negative is the drive back to San cristobal. 6 hours of "hell" due to all the road twists and turns and speed bumps. If you easily get car sick, this tour will be very hard for you. If not, I would recommend it. Just come prepared!

Agua Azul, Misol Ha and Palenque

Published on Nov, 2019

We had an amazing time on this trip. Its a long day, up at 3am on the bus at 4am. Its a 6 hour bus ride to the first stop Agua Azul, unfortunately it had rained the day before so the water wasn't Azul, but it doesn't have to be. The falls are stunning. Misol Ha was also incredible, we managed to get a swim under the fall. We went to Chichén Itza after Palenque and in my opinion Palenque is far better. Only 2% of the ruins have been uncovered, the rest is within the jungle. One piece of advice is to be sure to take mosquito repellent.

Great trip worth of value

If you go for this trip, definitelly get ready for a long day but a day that will be worth it. We really enjoyed all stops - and also very much appreciated time we had to spent at each place:-)
