Overview

Mt. Takao is a spiritual mountain located west of Tokyo. It is about one hour from Shinjuku by train. There is an old temple named Yakuoin, built in the 7th century. The mountain was considered sacred, and its nature has been preserved for more than 1300 years. This mountain has various hiking trails, some along the river and some along the ridge. If climbing up the trail is difficult, you can take a cable car, which makes climbing much easier. The guide can explain both the nature and spiritual meaning of this mountain. You can see beautiful nature and a holy temple.

What To Expect

1. Takaosan Yakuo-in Yuki-ji Temple Yakuoin temple is an old temple built 1200 years ago. It is a famous spiritual place. I will tell you how to pray at a Japanese temple to make your wish come true. You can buy a good luck charm or fortune telling if you want. 20 minutes

2. Mt. Takao At the top of Mt. Takao, there are shops where you can buy food or drinks. Takao Visitor Center is a museum where you can learn about the nature of Mt. Fuji. On a clear day, you can see a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. 20 minutes

3. Mt. Takaosan Hiking Course There are various hiking courses, and you can choose two of them. Some are along the river, and some are along the ridge. You can enjoy seeing flowers and hearing birds' voices. 4 hours

4. Mt. Takao Momijdai There is a small tea stall, and you can enjoy eating Japanese noodles. You can also take your lunch box and enjoy having lunchboxes in the countryside. In autumn, you can enjoy red leaves viewing. 20 minutes
