On this six-hour tour you can tailor an itinerary with the help of your local guide/driver. You can choose the different areas you want to visit. The City of Funchal, the Fishing Village of Câmara de Lobos, the west sea cliffs of Cabo Girão, the unique Fajã dos Padres, the hill side village of Monte, the east coast cliffs of Garajau, the Botanical Garden, or even the breathtaking mountain views of Nuns Valley are all possible options for your tour itinerary. Whatever your choice of itinerary, your guide will be there to help you at every moment.

Itinerary

  • Historic Center of Funchal

    You can choose to visit Funchal city, learn about its history, visit some of its iconic landmarks and areas, like the XV century Old Town, the Sé Cathedral, its famous “Mercado dos Lavradores” (farmer’s market) or “Fortaleza do Pico”. Your guide/driver will also take throughout the back streets to places that only a true local knows.

  • Paroquia de Nossa Senhora do Monte

    The lush hill side village of Monte at 550 meters above sea level, has lovely gardens, fantastic views and its where the famous “Taboggan Ride” is found.

  • Miradouro do Cristo Rei do Garajau

    The east cliffs of Garajau can also provide excellent views over the Atlantic Ocean and the city of Funchal. On the way up the first stop will be at Pináculo, 280m above sea level and located on the edge of a cliff. Travel on through to Garajau, set at the east end of the bay of Funchal. You will be offered a spectacular view of the "Christ the Redeemer" statue (older than the one in Brazil), whilst marveling at the crystal-clear waters below.

  • Baia de Camara de Lobos

    The e fishing village of Câmara de Lobos is famous for its picturesque looks, with colorful fishing boats in the dry dock right in the center of the village, a small bay and steep hills crowded with small old buildings. Its unique beauty was immortalized in one of Winston Churchill´s painting. Once in the village you will have the opportunity to explore it and learn about its history, culture and try some of the local delicacies.

  • Cabo Girao

    After your visit to the fishing village you can head up the hills to the top of Cabo Girão cliff where, at its highest point, 580 meters above sea level, a glass sky-walk will provide some breathtaking views over the south east coast and beach below.

    The Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens in Madeira Island, with marvelous views overlooking the city of Funchal.

Amazing Day in a Tuk Tuk on the Island of Madeira

Goncalo, our tuk-tuk tour guide is so knowledgeable about all things Portugal.. we took an amazing 6 hour tour through Madeira which included a toboggan ride. We were able to customize our tour with him at pickup which was on time and at our ship. We spent a lot of time learning about the history of Portugal as a whole and the history of the local areas of Funchal and surrounding areas of farming and fishing villages of old to modern day shopping malls and beautiful hotels and resorts to gardens and parks and the funicular that transports residents from the mountain areas to town. The island of Madeira is a gem of Portugal… very beautiful with great people and food and Poncha… a local drink that you must try along with the wines. Tuk tuk is the most fun way to get around and see things you might not otherwise see because it’s small enough to go to places larger vehicles can’t get too. Highly recommend Tuksi and Goncalo if you can get him.

Lovely trip in a Tukxi with Marte (spelling?). He asked us what we would like to see and tailored the trip accordingly. We mainly wanted a City tour of Funchal so we stayed pretty local, but it was exactly what we had hoped for. A very knowledgeable guide.

John did a great job. It was so much fun. He was so knowledgeable about Funchal, and gave us so much information about the city. We loved to information he told us about their eagles and falcons. We even got to see the falcons in action. Cabo Girão was spectacular.

Best way to see Funchal

John was a great guide and driver. Took us to the market when it started to rain heavily and it was huge and really interesting, plus we could stay dry. Then it was up and down steep narrow streets, visits to church’s and historic sites and a couple of outlook spots. We were so happy we didn’t try to navigate the town on our own.
