Our Food Market Tour of Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse was an enjoyable experience. Our guide with Original Food Tours was friendly, knowledgeable, and very considerate of my nine-year-old granddaughter. It was interesting to learn some of the historical background that created Lyon’s reputation for fine food. I was unfamiliar with the Mères Lyonnaises “Mothers of Lyon French Gastronomy,” which included the legendary female chef Eugénie Brazier who gave Paul Bocuse his start. We had samples of cheese, cured deli meat, macaroons, oysters, bread, desserts, chocolate, and (of course) wine and champagne. I especially had fun watching my granddaughter eat her first raw oyster. I agree with another post that said it was almost too much food for one tour, and I generally don’t have that much wine and champagne before lunch. I would highly recommend this food tour for anyone visiting Lyon. The market is several blocks from the nearest metro stop, so I suggest taking a taxi or the bus to get there for us seniors.
