Overview

Make the most of your shore visit with our half-day adventure tour exploring the Big Island from summit to sea. We'll take you on a memorable journey through Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to the world's most active volcano, Kilauea. You'll travel from the visitor center to Kilauea crater for panoramic views of the smoking caldera and steaming volcanic vents, and walk inside iconic Nahuku (Thurston Lava Tube). For lunch, enjoy an island-inspired meal on us at a local restaurant. Later we'll visit Punaluʻu black sand beach and discover the picture-perfect scenery of Rainbow Falls in Hilo. Please note: This tour is not wheelchair accessible and includes moderate walking, including climbing roughly 15 stairs during the lava tube tour.

  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

    Explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park starting at the visitor center and exhibit hall, followed by views of Kilauea caldera and Kilauea Iki, the steam vents, and sulfur banks. Walk inside the ancient Nahuku (Thurston Lava Tube) followed by lunch at Kilauea Lodge.

  • Punalu'u Black Sand beach

    Discover a beautiful black sand beach created by volcanic activity. Fed by an underground fresh water spring, Punaluʻu is frequently visited by green sea turtles.

  • Lili'uokalani Gardens (Pass By)

    Drive through the largest Edo-style ornamental garden outside of Japan. Liliʻuokalani Gardens is a peaceful park of towering Banyan trees, ponds, bridges, and pagodas.

  • Rainbow Falls

    Rainbow Falls is named after the colorful rainbows that appear in the mists of its waters. Signs in the viewing area relate some interesting historical facts about the waterfall, as well as the legend of the “Battle of the Wailuku River”.

A Day in Hilo

This guided tour in a twelve person van was very informational. We were picked up and dropped off right at the cruise port. There were two knowledgeable guides, one driving and the other narrating. They shared a wealth of information about the areas we drove through with interesting facts about the history, culture and landscape. The narration was supplemented with pictures to view and artifacts that were passed around. An appropriate amount of time was spent at the different stops which included beautiful Rainbow Falls, a black sand beach and the amazing Volcano National Park. We saw turtles at the black sand beach. The tour also drove through Lili'uokalani Gardens. This tour included a relaxing lunch stop. We learned a lot and enjoyed this comfortable cruise.
