We had an unforgettable half-day walking tour with Pancho, a knowledgeable, compassionate, and deeply thoughtful local guide. From the start, Pancho brought Hiroshima’s history to life with compassion and insight. He shared not only historical facts but also his own family’s experience during and after the bombing, which added a deeply personal and emotional layer to the tour.
We visited several major landmarks including the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Dome. Pancho also took us to other sites that survived the blast including a school and bank. He guided us through making an origami crane, explaining its symbolism of peace and healing and which got an opportunity to donate at the Children’s Peace Monument. It was a powerful and moving moment.
Pancho also recommended excellent local food options, including a delicious vegan and pork-free version of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki—perfect for our dietary needs. As we parted ways, he kindly gave us tips for exploring Miyajima Island the next day.
Beyond the history, we were struck by Hiroshima’s natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and resilience. This tour gave us a much deeper understanding of the city and its people. Highly recommend!
