    10 minutes

  • N/A

Next, you'll pass through Tower Junction, home to the Roosevelt Lodge where, despite the name, no Roosevelt ever camped. But that doesn't make it any less of a fantastic camping spot!

    5 minutes

  • Roosevelt Arch

The Roosevelt Arch is a rusticated triumphal arch at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, United States. Constructed under the supervision of the US Army at Fort Yellowstone, its cornerstone was laid down by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903.

    5 minutes

  • Lamar Valley

As you drive, you'll pass Lamar Valley next. This valley is the best place in Yellowstone to spot the park's iconic wildlife. You'll almost definitely see bison here, and might even get lucky and catch sight of some elusive wolves!

Visitors entering from the northeast will enter through the Northeast Entrance near Cooke City.

    5 minutes

  • N/A

    5 minutes

  • Canyon Village Area

Next, you'll pass through Canyon Village, the strange, semi-town where many of Yellowstone's workers live during their time at the park. It offers a fun glimpse into what life is like for the park employees!

    5 minutes

  • Inspiration Point

Continuing on, you'll arrive at Inspiration Point, the most popular of the overlooks along Yellowstone's Grand Canyon. The vista here is simply unmatched anywhere else in the park.

    5 minutes

  • Hayden Valley

Up next is Hayden Valley, which offers a glimpse into the past. Though it's a lush green valley today, it was once at the bottom of a lake!

    5 minutes

  • Cody

Those entering from the east will enter through the park's East Entrance in Cody.

    5 minutes

  • N/A

Next, you'll cross Fishing Bridge and hear about the park service's early, misguided attempts to boost park visitation by introducing invasive trout to the rivers.

    5 minutes

  • Yellowstone Lake

Finally, you'll arrive at Yellowstone Lake, the largest high elevation lake in North America. This pristine lake is too cold to swim in, but it makes the perfect place for a picnic or even a boat ride!

Excellent Self-Guided Tour Narrative

Published on Oct, 2024

The self-guided tour was great. It provided both overview information and specific stops on Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks. It was like being on a guided bus tour without the bus and people. Plus, we could go to many stops where a bus could not go because of its size. It was fairly easy to use and play back different information / stops. As noted, the parks have inconsistent internet connection.

Fantastic Audio Tour Guide!

Published on Oct, 2024

This bundled tour combination provided just the perfect background for our family's trip to both parks! It was informative, accurate, and automatically picked up on exactly where we were within each park. The stories and audio were of excellent quality, capturing the interest of all 7 of us aged 8 to 73! Not an easy task... A great addition to your road trips, we will be testing out some more of these products on our next National Parks trip! Make certain you follow the instructions carefully and download the app and tour while you have access to a strong WiFi signal and definitely BEFORE you get to the parks! :)

Self-Guided Tour is Amazing Value

Published on Sep, 2024

This tour was absolutely fantastic and a great value for the money. We did Grand Teton and Yellowstone, as well as the bonus tours of West Thumb, Prismatic Spring, and Old Faithful. We loved the historical context and fun facts about the parks and attractions. We saw several things we would have missed entirely without this tour because they were off the beaten path. It was very easy to customize to your own preferences, mobility, and schedule. The offline functionality was especially helpful because there is no service in many areas of Yellowstone. I strongly recommend downloading everything before you leave. I will definitely consider other Action Tours in the future.

Yellowstone is a must see!

Published on Sep, 2024

The self guided tour by Action Tours was great! We went in the west entrance and out the north. Just awesome. Another quaint town to visit on the way from Bozeman, is Ennis especially if you want to fish. Best to take a guided boat trip. I plan to go back in May and will stay a couple nights in W Yellowstone and see the Grand Tetons and then spend a couple nights in Cody, WY

Very Helpful

App worked as described. I downloaded content in advance, and had full coverage even without WiFi or cell service. GPS map automatically tracked our travel through the tour.
