Overview

Discover Rockdragon in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, with access to the Hermitage. You will approach essential villages in Biscay, such as Bermeo, Mundaka and Gernika, with a txakoli tasting included. Our trip begins in Bilbao, next to the Puppy sculpture, and we head to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a natural gem famous for being the scene of Game of Thrones (Rockdragon). You will climb 241 steps to the hermitage, with guaranteed access. Enjoy the coastal landscape and the breeze of the Cantabrian Sea.   • San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

    On the guided tour of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, guests will enjoy a unique experience that combines history, nature and culture. During the tour, you can enjoy the coastal landscape by walking the scenic trail and photographing the landscape. Climb the 241 steps and visit the Hermitage at the top, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist At the end of the tour, you will return with a greater appreciation of this iconic place and its historical and cultural links.

Magnificent scenery, fun day

We greatly enjoyed this day trip. Not only was the scenery magnificent, the bus was comfortable, our driver Alfredo was safe and helpful, and our guide Miguel was excellent - knowledgeable, friendly and fluidly bi-lingual. His enthusiasm for the geography, history and culture of the Basque country made the tour very interesting. And his sense of humor and musical talent made it a particularly fun day.

We decided to walk to the church in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe to get the full experience of being in a Game of Thrones shooting location. Tiring but exhilarating! Tour of San Sebastián gave us a glimpse of the place, with just enough time to have lunch or Pintxos and cold beers.

it’s a worthwhile day trip out of bilbao to san juan de gaztelugatxe and san sebastián. one thing to note when you visit san juan de gaztelugatxe is you need proper shoes with soles that have a grip as you descend and ascend stone stairs that can be slippery. also it’s not an easy walk to see the church so you’ll need to take your time and bring water. lastly pay attention when you return as several people miss the right turn back up the stairs that you initially descended. san sebastián was pretty city but i felt i could spend 2 hours and saw what i needed.
