During the Edo Period, Kawagoe thrived as a supplier to Tokyo, and the shogun appointed loyal men as lords of Kawagoe Castle, fostering close ties. Over time, Kawagoe inherited Edo culture and architecture. Kitain Temple, a key attraction in the Greater Tokyo area, houses the only remaining structures from the former Edo Castle. What To Expect

1. Kitain Kitain is the head temple of the Tendai Sect in the Kanto Region. There are 540 stone statues of the disciples of Buddha named the Gohyaku Rakan statues, each with its own facial expression. 2 hours

2. Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine Hikawa Shrine in Kawagoe is the best place to visit for those in love, looking for love. It is said to be about 1,500 years old and enshrines five deities. Two pairs of them are married, making the Shinto shrine a popular place to pray for good better fortune in marriage and family. Why don't you visit here for your happiness? 3. Kashiya Yokochō is a small shopping alley near by a Warehouse District. You can find stores selling traditional Japanese sweets and rice cakes. They sell various Japanese traditional sweets, such as candies, rice crackers, karinto (sugar coated, deep fried cookies), ice cream, and cakes and sweet potatoes. Also, some small toys and accessories, which would be good as authentic souvenirs for your family or friends, can be found. 30 minutes

4. Explore Kawagoe's Warehouse District for a nostalgic glimpse into the Edo Period (1603-1867). The area is adorned with Kurazukuri, clay-walled warehouse-style buildings that boast authentic Edo architecture. Wander along the charming Kurazukuri Street, where you'll find a variety of shops and restaurants housed in these historical warehouse-styled buildings. The unique atmosphere and cultural richness make it a worthwhile visit for tourists. 2 hours

5. Toki no Kane As a symbol of Kawagoe, the clock tower chimes four times daily at 6:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00. Following the devastation caused by the Great Kawagoe Fire of 1893, the tower was reconstructed in 1894 to replace the former structure. Today, it stands as a significant landmark in the city's history. 1 hour
