Overview

We are a family business since 1915. Our family produce the famous distillate of citron leaves. Carrying on the family business, Sofia (4th generation) will give you a tour in our distillery where the famous Kitron produce.

Itinerary

No visit to Naxos would be complete without a trip to the Kitron distillery. Take a step back in time, sampling our traditional sweets and liqueurs, learning the secrets of distillation. The tour begins in the courtyard next to the beautiful garden of the Probona Distillery where you will have the opportunity to taste local citrus products and liqueurs, along with a selection of appetisers. A chance to taste various kinds of citrus fruit and traditional Naxian marzipan, covered in smooth, dark chocolate,citron- flavoured "halvadopita" and dried citrus fruit. Naxian ouzo, a must for any lover of all things Greek, can also be enjoyed with olives, bread sticks,a different kind of "ntakos" and a wide variety of our own fruit preserves.For those with a taste for the traditional, local "Rakomelo" and citron-flavoured raki will also be served with Naxian figs and nuts. Both tour and citron tasting last 60 minutes.

Great fun and fabulous value!

Hands down the best distillery experience I've ever had. Sophia's knowledge and experience of her family's business was great. She was very funny as well. There was no rush when the hour was up to leave. Our tour was at 10am and we left a 1pm. Everything was so so good (well Oozo isn't my favorite) and I left with a number of new finds in beverages and some of the snacks.

This tour was a lot of fun! The rich history of the family business that is Citron was fascinating, and our host Sofia being an actual part of that family made it feel even more authentic. A really great time! Also recommend visiting their shop near the port!

I booked the wine and citron tasting for myself and a couple friends when we were in Naxos and it was a highlight for all of us! I like doing distillery & wine tours and this experience was one of my favourites. Our tour guide, Sophia, was fabulous and gave us so much information on her family’s business. The tastings were delicious, as were all the food pairings we were provided. All the staff we interacted with were warm and welcoming and really added to the experience. If I ever find myself in Naxos again, Promponas will be my first stop!
