We went to Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours festival. We stayed in Sydney at the Membertou Hampton. I’d recommend it because of cleanliness, comfortable beds, exercise facilities, pool, complimentary breakfast buffet (great), popcorn in the evenings and occasionally soup, too. It’s connected to a top notch restaurant.
I’d always recommend a day of traveling the Cabot Trail. The views are breathtaking. Amazing fall colors and ocean views.Lots of little shops and restaurants along the way.
The Gaelic College is worth visiting.
If you’re interested in history, Louisburg is worth your time. Don’t miss the Alexander Graham Bell museum in Baddeck.
If you visit during the festival, it is busier, but there are concerts all over the island with Celtic music, bagpipes, and step dancing. There are many cultural activities scheduled at that time. I learned how to needle felt!
If planning to visit during the festival, get on the email list to take full advantage of the selection of venues and activities. Some sell out quickly, so it’s important to know when they open up for purchasing.
Also be aware that the festival occurs over the Canadian Thanksgiving.
