Overview

About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil. ​ We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a fresh water lagoon. ​ On this tour it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year). ​ There is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. Be aware that if you are the only client booking this tour, we will offer you to go another day or offer you to do the tour in private (230 usd)

Miguel was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and generous. He made the experience both fun and educational about the local birds, wildlife and culture. Can’t recommend this tour enough.

Birding with enthusiastic guides!

Our group of 11 adults (all extended family) were a mixed bag. 3 had birding experience and 8 were novices. We had 3 guides plus a driver—they picked us up from our rented home in Tulum. Jose, Marco and Emiliano were enthusiastic guides the entire time of our “half day tour” which totaled 9 hours including a quick break for coffee in the morning and a delicious lunch of chicken enchiladas. They assisted us in visualizing and identifying 45 different birds, many of which were lifers even for the birders in our group. Favorites included close up and extended views of the Altamira oriole, turquoise browed motmot, Yucatán jay, ferruginous Pygmy-owl and lots of social flycatchers. Jose, Marco and Emiliano really know their birds and know how to introduce visitors to these beautiful birds of the Yucatán. Highly recommend this tour!
