Cetaceans in the Azores The Azores are a true oasis when it comes to cetacean observation, being possible to see around 28 different species throughout the year, this represents 1/3 of the world's known cetacean species. Our team is prepared to make it possible to observe these magnificent mammals, with the help of a “Watchman” (a member of our team located on land), located in a high area, where, through long-range binoculars and radio guidance, vessels about the whereabouts of cetaceans. This way we are able to maintain a cetacean sighting rate of over 90%. Sighting Guarantee When observing cetaceans, it is difficult to predict what behavior and species will be possible to see. In this way, water4fun can only guarantee the sighting of at least one specimen of the cetacean order, and it is not possible to predict which or even the family (whales, dolphins, among others). If no specimen of the cetacean order is seen, the customer has the right to reschedule a second attempt, subject to company availability, completely free of charge, or as a last resort, request a full refund.

Great excursion, whales or no.

3 hour excursion was delightful. We saw three different species of dolphin up close for long periods of time; no whales today, but that's mother nature. I liked that the boat was small - 12 passengers in 6 rows, so everyone had a great view at all times (some competitors' boats had seating of 4-5 across). The seas were not particularly rough, so the experience might have been a little different with bigger swells. The seats straddled a partition and had grab bars, so I always felt safe even when standing up to see across to the opposite side, although for those with limited leg flexibility they might be a little challenging to get in and out of. Potential sightings are reported by a spotter on the top of Monte Brasil so that the boat can be directed over a large sighting area. Our guide Victor presented a lot of useful information both during sightings and also during lulls, about dolphin and whale biology, migration, and also seabirds. It was definitely worth the price of admission even without catching a whale.

Awesome experience! It was a small group and the guide and navigators were wonderful! We saw 2 sets of mother and calf as well as a lone female. Lots of dolphins were all around us. A perfect day!

Great Tour!

This was a wonderful tour with an amazing tour guide, Victor! He was very knowledgeable, engaging and had a sense of humor. Our boat Captain was able to navigate the waters with ease and quickly got us to different parts of the ocean on a timely manner upon receiving updates from the Spotter on Mount Brazil. We got to see 4 different dolphin species (Common Dolphin, Spotted Atlantic, Bottleneck and Risso's). The boat also only had 12 seats, making the tour intimate and more enjoyable compared to other boat tours. Definitely book Water4Fun! :)
