Our day started with a cruise pier pick up and short drive into Edinburgh and city tour. We had time to stop at a few sights for a few minutes but the streets were so crowded! When I mentioned that I am an Outlander fan, Allen pointed out "Printer's Alley" and I was able to go for photos there.
The time spent at Rosslyn Chapel was well worth it; what a treasure! We especially enjoyed the talk given by the docents explaining the history of the chapel. The grounds are beautiful and it is a lovely respite from the crowds of Edinburgh during the festival.
Next we were off to an early dinner in a local pub which was quiet and welcoming. The food was excellent as were the drinks.
The culmination of the evening and why we were here was for the Tattoo!. The Tattoo was a truly remarkable experience that did not disappoint. The variety of performances was outstanding and truly met my expectations for that "once in a lifetime" event. Our guide, Allen, provided great commentary and historical information and handled a mishap at the entrance to the stadium quite well and to our satisfaction. He has been in this business for a number of years and is very experienced and flexible to handle unexpected situations. It is a very crowded way in so allow plenty of time for the walk if you don't have a great private driver like we did! We did get a light rain while there but came prepared with rain ponchos and other rain gear. There was a short wait after the event to be picked up inside the empty stadium but this too was so convenient.
I would highly recommend Ecosse and Allen for any travel arrangements. I would attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo again, given the opportunity.
