Overview

Join if you dare! This tour is strictly for over 18's only. Journey into our network of haunted underground vaults below the South Bridge, you shall visit a torture exhibition to see the instruments from the “Burning Times”, used to extract confessions, and punish the unfortunate. Then bravely enter the haunted vaults, named most haunted place in Edinburgh! Visit the recently used Wiccan Temple, the cursed stone circled vault (as featured on Most Haunted Live) and the Legendary Haunted Vault... Who knows what might happen? Will the Poltergeist attack? You have been warned. This tour is for over 18s only.

    This is a special 75 minute over-18's only exploration of Edinburgh's darkest history and paranormal secrets. You will be taken on a journey down into the infamous underground vaults. Who were the infamous characters that once roamed these areas, leaving behind a legacy of legend and notoriety? The South Bridge Vaults has even higher levels of paranormal activity late at night, approaching the witching hour, your tour is the prime time to explore these haunted and eerie locations for yourself. Ask your guide about their own paranormal experiences and hear about some of the reports we regularly receive from visitors, paranormal investigators and mediums. Finally you shall receive free access to a torture exhibition to see the instruments from the “Burning Times”, used to extract confessions, and punish the unfortunate. Dare you join for this celebration of the paranormal and macabre? Who knows what might happen? Will the Poltergeist attack? You have been warned.

Spooky, informative and fun!

My husband and I did the Terror Tour of the medieval torture equipment and vaults/history beneath the South Bridge. Our tour guide, Fraser, made it a memorable, enjoyable and informative experience. Fraser combined a blend of historical information, tension-filled theatre and kind care/safety advice to ensure we had just the right mix of late-night spookiness and interesting factual information. Our group was covered to his every word. We finished up with a new appreciation of the plight faced by many during the city’s formative years, empathy for the disadvantaged during this time, and our skepticism about paranormal activity challenged! Thanks for a well-run, fun night, Fraser!

Wonderful spooky tour

This was a really well-done walking tour for only taking about an hour (which was ideal for a 10pm start) and involved a few quick and amusing stops along the historic Main Street before arriving at the underground vaults. Ally was an excellent guide. The path is a bit steep and slippery at various points, so wear boots with decent traction. Great way to get a sense of the vaults without committing a ton of time and money!

We went on the vault tour with Aimee on 29th March (11am) and we just wanted to say that Aimee was incredible! Captivating, funny and so knowledgeable! She made the tour fascinating and interesting. She was so enthusiastic and clearly knew her stuff! We had such a great experience and learnt loads!

Spooky fun!

Tour guide Dom was informative and fun, he sprinkled in a few little jumpscares here and there that kept us on our toes! The vaults are very low lit, and one section is in complete darkness, so definitely not for the faint of heart! I walk with a cane and found getting into the vaults a little strenuous as there is a large step up (about 18 inches high!) into the building, and a winding staircase. It was still completely enjoyable and worth it, but just a word of warning for those with mobility issues!
