Overview

Experience the beauty of the Swartberg mountains (UNESCO World Heritage site) as you travel to the summit of the world famous, Swartberg Pass. This national monument dates back to 1881 and offers stunning panoramic views of the Little and Great Karoo which you can overlook over 200km with your bare eyes. From the summit guests are able to take a walk in the reserve between 500 different species of fauna and flora. There are several photo opportunities along this winding route which will leave you at awe. After the hike there’s an opportunity to add downhill mountain biking to get the adrenalin pumping. (Additional costs apply.) After the tour enjoy Traditional Karoo Cuisine at Kobus se Gat Restaurant. Feast on certified Karoo lamb chops, boerewors, ostrich kebabs, pumpkin fritters and variety of salads and vegetables all freshly harvested from the gardens at the restaurant. Freshly baked Roosterkoek (traditional bread) served with homemade marmalades forms part of the meal.

Amazing experience

My wife and I really enjoyed this experience which comprised of a history of the pass and knowledge provided on the local flora given by our guide Frikkie. We decided to cycle from the top of the pass back down to Kobe’s se Gat which was a thrilling experience, where upon we was greeted by a traditional lunch which was lovely.

Beautiful day on the Swartberg pas

We booked the Swartberg pas tour through our tour operator as part of a package deal so we didn’t know what to expect when we were picked up at our hotel in the morning. We ended up having a wonderful day. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the mountains and showed us picturesque towns and views, took some great pictures, drove safely and was an overall great companion. He literally went the extra mile at the end of the tour and made a detour to show us giraffes. He also had some great tips for our trip going forward towards Robertson such as feeding giraffes in Oudtshoorn, a lunch stop in Barrydale and blending your own wine in Robertson that we all did the next day. Overall we would strongly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!

We had the absolute pleasure of a weekend in Oudtshoorn, and we can't wait to go back! On the Saturday we did the Swartberg Pass Tour, which was incredible – the tour guide was knowledgeable and funny, and views were breathtaking. Afterwards we had lunch at Kobus se Gat where the food was great and the staff felt like family.
