Overview

This is one of the most scenic hikes in Valencia. During the hike we will make a full loop around the reservoir, getting amazing views of its turquoise waters. We will also pass by two waterfalls - Chorrero de la Castellana and Barranco de la Hoz. You will be amazed by the beauty that Valencia's interior hides.

Itinerary

Let’s go to Chera to do a loop around the Buseo reservoir. During this hike we will get great panoramic views of the reservoir from all the angles. We will also pass by the impressive waterfall – el Chorrero de la Castellana. The Buseo reservoir is a beautiful site reminiscent of Swiss landscapes, and which was formed when a 40-meter-high dam was erected in the Reatillo riverbed, at the entrance to the narrow Tormagal gorge. The dam, built using ashlar masonry between 1903 and 1915, can store 7.5 cubic hectometres of water, an amount that allowed the entire Valencian garden to be watered at least two and a half times a year. It is the oldest reservoir in the Turia basin and from its commissioning it was the largest in the Valencian Community, until the construction of the María Cristina reservoir in Castellón, completed in 1925. But it retained the first place in the province of Valencia until 1952, the date on which the Benagéber reservoir was built, later its hydraulic utility being merely tourist.

Great hike

Demetri was a great guide, very professional at all times. The walk was amazing, it was varied underfoot and we had the best views all the way round. It’s 14km with mixed terrain so consider that when booking. If you are up to that it’s well worth the time and cost. I would definitely recommend 5*!

Dmitry is such a great hiking guide! I really enjoyed the hike. He organized the trail very well, showed us hidden spots, viewpoints, kept with the speed of everyone in a group. Really recommended.

Lake, Waterfall and Pools

A great experience around a big reservoir. There are many great views on the first half of the hike. As reward there is a big waterfall with a nice pool to cool down after the first part. And it is a cool down because the clear water is actually cold and refreshing. The second part leads back around the reservoir to another spectacular pool that offers again the opportunity to see if one is used to swim in cold water. The trail is easy going without difficulties. At some part there are chains / ropes to help a bit. Last but not least. Dimitrij is a great and experienced guide. The drive from and to Valencia felt super save. And on the hike he knows exactly what to do. A perfect day and highly recommended.

Scenic route with swimming cool downs

Well picked route with fantastic spots to swim and viewpoints. Nice physical experience, just good to push you. And getting together with the group before and after in a cafe was a nice experience!

Turquoise lake and beautiful waterfalls

Stunning trip around the reservoir. The hike doesn't have too much elevation, therefore it is also a perfect choice for warm days or if you are a rather beginner hiker. There are some tricky bits on the path but it's fun. You walk a fair amount around the reservoir and have this beautiful turquois water on your left - which is an extraordinary experience. We had two stops for a swim, both at an amazing waterfall. Dmitry is a great guide, always perfectly prepaired, well organized and knowledgable. The sheer beauty of nature in this part of Valencia province is stunning.
