Overview

Discover the beautiful town of Sorrento in a small group on this walking tour with a local guide tasting the local street food delights. Follow your guide around Tasso Square, admire the Sant'Antonino Church, San Francesco Cloisters and marvel at the ancient Valley of the Mills. Get a sense of local life as you stroll around the old fishing village of Marina Grande and enjoy the stunning view of the Neapolitan Riviera from the breathtaking viewpoint. In the little alleyways of Sorrento, you could appreciate the local art crafts such as the inlaid woodworks and the famous Sorrento sandals.

Meeting points

Please meet our Guide by the entrance of "Gray Line - IAMME IA!" office located behind the statue of Torquato Tasso, nearby the Bar Fauno, next to the Fattoria Terranova shop. We suggest to arrive at meeting point 10 minutes prior to the departure.

  • Piazza Tasso

    Piazza Tasso is a central place and square in Sorrento in the south of Italy. The square is named after the poet Torquato Tasso. On the square stands a statue of S. Antonino Abbate, the saint patron of the city. Taste the delicious IGP lemon with sugar on top, before continuing the walking tour.

  • Il Vallone dei Mulini

    Vallone dei Mulini (known in English as Valley of the Mills) is a historic valley in Sorrento, Italy. The flour mills, built from stone as far back as the 13th century. Its name derived from its beginning function: to grind grain. The valley originates from the release of waters into a tufa plain about 37,000 years ago, following the eruption of the Campi Flegrei. It was in operation until the beginning of the tenth century. In 1866, Piazza Tasso was established, and it caused the mill and the surrounding sea to be isolated. The building was closed and abandoned in the 1940s.

  • Chiostro di San Francesco

    Sorrento’s Cloister of San Francesco is an oasis of tranquility steps away from the historic town’s bustling central piazza of Sant’Antonino. Built on the remains of a 7th century monastery and dating back to the 14th century has a unique architecture. The cloister unites a religious complex of the seventh-century monastery and a late-medieval church, both dedicated to St Francis of Assisi and is a showpiece of various architectural styles from pre-Roman through Arabic to medieval. Spot the columns, each one differently decorated from one another and admire the majestic pepper tree, which stands superbly in the middle.

  • Villa Comunale di Sorrento

    Villa Comunale is a stunning property which stands on the gardens of the Franciscan friars. The Villa has a beautiful park of palm trees, holm, oaks, and century-old pines overlooking the sea. You could take breathtaking picture of the Gulf dominated by the Volcano Vesuvius.

Gabriella was excellent. Great tour to get a good overview of Sorrento, probably a little too much food, better to have a little less & more variety

A leisurely and informative walk around Sorrento

We had an interesting walk around Sorrento with Gabriella. Since it was soon after breakfast we did not really take full advantage of the street food we were introduced to, perhaps a later start would be good for others. She was very knowledgeable and went the extra mile with us - literally! - so we could find the market, which turned out to be not worth the effort in the end.

LOVELY EVENING IN SORRENTO

We did the guided walking tour in the evening in Sorrento and were very happy with our evening. Our guide was Kelly (from Yorkshire) who was very helpful and informative showing us behind the scenes of pizza making, old mill and ravine, history of the town, good shopping points, factory where they make those lovely souvenir wooden boxes, along with samples of the food and drinks that Sorrento are famous for. Overall a lovely experience was had by all. Great sunset! Would recommend.
