Overview

You have probably heard, ''Don't go to a favela, it's dangerous". This phrase is based on prejudice. Would you like to experience a favela, real and raw? Come with me on a free walking tour of Rocinha, the largest favela in Latin America, and learn what life is like here. You will walk through the neighborhood while your guide tells the story of the community and how it has developed, from the beginning to today. Following the same paths, the locals walk every day, you will experience the scenes and culture of this vibrant, friendly neighborhood. You will visit a supermarket and other local businesses, and see social projects that benefit the community. You will also see incredible views from the high hilltop and take pictures. You will need to bring money, for donations to community charities, viewpoints, souvenirs, and Moto-taxi.

Meeting points

Please contact your guide Caio upon booking the tour and he will send you the address to meet him. Getting to the meeting point is easy by Uber/taxi or subway. You can take the MetroRio Linha 4 (Line 4 - Yellow) to the Sao Conrado / Rocinha Station and we will meet at Gate A.

    From the metro station we will take a moto-taxi (Motorcycle taxi) to the top of Rocinha. From there we will start the walking tour.

We had an incredible experience on this tour. Our guide, Carlos was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture. The local transportation got us to the top swiftly and safely. We especially enjoyed the breathtaking views and unique local experiences that made this trip truly unforgettable. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for an immersive and hassle-free adventure. Do make sure to request Carlos as your guide!

This was probably the highlight of my trip to Rio! Carlos was my guide and he was awesome. He lives in the favela and knows it intimately. He shared so much information and we had great conversation during the tour. I felt completely safe and would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rio!

We had an amazing trip around the rocinha favela, Caio took us to the places that tourists would not normally go, Though we felt 100% safe the whole time. I couldn’t recommend more if you want an authentic experience and to learn about the history.

This tour was scheduled on the last day of my Rio visit, and I was surprised to find out that it was the highlight of my trip. It started with an exhilarating ride on a bike (moto-taxi) to the top of the Favela, then our guide; Caio gave us the background, history, misconceptions, and current state of the Favelas. He is a great communicator, and we felt safe with him throughout the whole tour. He introduced us and gave us a chance to buy from local artists and vendors without any pressure. He stayed with us until we got in our Uber back to the hotel. I would recommend this tour without any reservations to any visitor coming to Rio.

Amazing tour of Favela! Must do whilst in Rio. Caio is very knowledgeable, friendly and took us to some great spots including - football pitch, rooftop view, local persons house,l and secret lanes! We even played football with the kids. Highly recommend Caio!!
