Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

Our tour guide will pick up you around 8am from your hotel or Airport. Head to first stop at Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. It was established in 1964 to return orphaned "apes back to the wild". The centre was being administered by the wildlife section of the Forestry Department which in 1988 was upgraded as a department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Development. All administration and management was given to the new Wildlife Department of Sabah. At 10:00 am Proceed to Platform B, observe man's closest relative a 'the Orang Utans being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterous Forest of Borneo and later watch a 25 minutes scheduled video documentary show.

Then move on to Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, promote sun bear conservation in Borneo through animal welfare, conservation, rehabilitation, education and research - giving captured sun bears a better home and restoring their right to live in the wild, by A Creating the capacity to confiscate, rehabilitate and release suitable orphaned and ex-captive bears back into the wild & providing an improved long-term living environment for captive bears that cannot be released. Educating the public and raising awareness about this species. Achieving increased protection for sun bears and their habitat through ongoing research, increased knowledge and awareness, and further protection of habitat. Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC)

Lastly, visit to Rain forest Discovery Centre. It is the gateway to getting to know the uniqueness and Importance of Borneo’s rain forests. Situated 23 kilometers from Sandakan Town and not too far from the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, the RDC’s main highlights are its exhibition halls, the Plant Discovery Garden, the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, environmental education programmes and a small lake for boat rides. The RDC also gives visitors a chance to get intimate with nature through its Nature Experience programme which includes a guided walk to the Plant Discovery Garden, Rainforest Walk and indoor/outdoor activities. After finish above mentioned sightseeing we will Drop off you at Sandakan airport or your respective hotel (town area only).

Fantastic Sandakan Day Trip

Fantastic day trip to Sandakan! We had a private tour guide and car who personalised and customised the tour to the things we had prioritised. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was born and raised in the city. They brought us to an exceptional lunch spot and picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Couldn’t fault the whole experience! I look forward to going back!

We did not do an organised tour, we just had a taxi driver take us around and paid our own entrance fees, he was fantastic, you can definitely do all 3 in a day, If you go to the morning session at the Orangutan Park, and miss seeing the Larger ones in the wild, you can return for the afternoon session using the same ticket and give it another try, You will almost certainly see a sun bear, but the Rainforest Discovery park can really use up time if you are interested as there is a lot of walking options. So much better than a big tour group! Mr Ray sent us a msg the night before to confirm our flight and arrival time. We arrived at the airport, met him outside at our agreed meeting point and off we went. His car was clean, he was friendly and knowledgeable. We caught the early flight from KK, so had time to stop off at local bakery! They only took cash, which is something to consider if you want to go to the true local places, not all of the venues have an eftpos machine. It was cheap and delicious and so nice to hang with the locals. We got the the Orangutan Sanctuary before the tour buses, so also got the prime positions to view these beautiful animals. Two had little babies, they were very playful, it was wonderful to watch. We also saw the sun bears and got to buy our souvenirs at the gift shop. Tshirts were a bit on the small side but, they don’t take refunds or exchanges, so check the sizes. The rainforest centre and the viewing platforms were also worth the visit. Lots of bird photographers hoping for that special shot. Lunch was also delicious, a small buffet but, the food was great. We had some time to kill before our flight back so we went up the hill to a Buddhist temple. The views were amazing. Thank you so much Mr Rey, we had a wonderful time and hope to come again with the other half of our family!

Highlight of a one month trip in Malaysia and Indonesia! I did a round trip (via plane ) from Kota Kinabalu and Sandarkan in one day. Agus picked me up from the airport with our guide Azies. Azies was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He pointed out orangutan nests I never noticed. He is knowledgeable about plants , birds, monkeys , bears , really the entire ecosystem! It was fascinating to be right in front of orangutans in the wild , sun bears , proboscis monkeys as well as macaque monkeys and other animals. Both Azies and Agus are true professional ! Recommend doing proboscis monkey add on !
