Overview

Tanjung Bulat Jungle Camp is far unique from other lodges in kinabatangan is because this jungle camp is totally own and operated by the local people come from the river people tribe. Coming to TBJC means supporting the local community product as well. Beside that TBJC also situated in a very isolated place in Kinabatangan river compare to other lodges, for example, if you go to the other part of kinabatanga river lodges, 1 monkey will be 10-15 boat watching, but in TBJC, 1 monkey only 1 boat, which is US. We also implement NO MASS TOURIST policy in our jungle camp, which means, in a moment we only allowed 10 traveler maximum to come to our simple and basic jungle camp yet special. This is because we want to give such an authentic privilege for our clients. We also, implement our conservation project called rainforest carbon offset project (tree planting), some of your money we get, we will invest it back to environment by buying tropical seedlings from the local community.

Two night stay at Tanjung Bulat

Amazing location. Well looked after by all the staff. Good mix of organised walks/cruises and time to relax in the camp or take in the views of the local flora and fauna (bring binoculars if you can!)

This is a must do in Borneo. It’s 1.5 hours in a van from Sandakan (lunch stop en route at your expense in small town). Pick up was seamless at our Air Bnb. On arrival at the jungle drop off you get in a boat across the river. Then a 700m walk (so many mozzies so layer/spray). Another boat to the accommodation. It’s basic but it’s the jungle. Meals were great - meat, veg and rice. Clean drinking water. No wifi. I was eaten alive on the hammocks so wear thick clothing/socks or use your blanket. Jai the guide is so cool. Lots of knowledge and generous with his binoculars. We saw orangutan right in our accommodation. Proboscis money’s, gibbons, crocs, lots of birds, huge lizards. So awesome for my 13 year old son. Thanks Jai and team. If you can afford to take some cash for the team please do. They are paid Malaysian wage to do a huge job.

I could not recommend it more! The best thing you can do when in Borneo. You spend three days in a remote part of the jungle surrounded by wildlife (literally!). There's even an orangutan living right next to the camp, with proboscis monkeys and gibbons making regular visits. The crew and the guides are fantastic! The most pleasant people with an extreme knowledge about the jungle.

We had an excellent time on this trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out lots of wildlife. The food was tasty and the team was friendly too. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants the best chance of seeing animals in their natural habitat.

Even if the accommodation is basic, no Wi-Fi and cell connection but this makes it special, just connect to the nature and forget outside world, and you are going to see much in the nature
