Book with Abdul! - +60 11-1669 5114 Found Abdul’s number on trip advisor and messaged him on WhatsApp, originally planned to try to visit the Gomantong Caves, but he informed us it was quite far so we instead asked if the Firefly Cruise was available and he was able to book it for us on exactly the day we needed. Picked us up from our hotel, we had tea and cakes before the cruise where we managed to see some probiscis monkeys, macaques and a 2m crocodile only a few metres from our boat which was incredible! We stopped on a small beach for sunset and we’re shown a group of hermit crabs which was very cool - all these extra animals were an added bonus we didn’t expect. Then as it got dark we saw the fireflies, we must’ve seen at least 4 trees full of them, and they were amazing to see. Another bonus - we managed to see some glowing plankton in the water next to our boat. We then returned to the dock and ate a delicious curry, home cooked by one of the local people in the village next to the river. Abdul was so lovely and everyone else who came on the tour were too, Abdul even arranged for our airport transfer the next day! A pleasure to meet him and nice to take a trip that was more locally run, rather than through a bigger company.

Wonderful experience that we can explore the fireflies, and crocodiles. we cruise in the night to find the beautiful fireflies and also we have found a 1.5meters crocodiles. Also the island area that we take a rest has also a good view. Dinner is delicious and staff is patient, introducing us information about animals, plants. Our guide Azrien is kind and responsible, Nice experience !

We found out about this trip via our driver Mr. Azrien, he was honest and reliable, he didn't sugar coat any attraction and his suggestions were concrete. We were greeted with tea and snack while waiting for the start of the journey, then we swam and observed the animals: mud skippers, crabs, monkeys and baby crocs. Then we waited until it was dark to see fireflies along the river. Trip ended with tasty dinner. It was quite the experience.

This tour was well worth it. Our driver, Jafar, was very friendly and his daughter was the tour guide and was great with lots of knowledge about the wildlife and local area (think her name was Ivy). The tea in the local town was nice and included snacks. The cruise was really good, we saw probascis monkey and long tail macaque on the way to an island to watch the sunset then on the way back saw fireflies and a baby crocodile. The fireflies were amazing and apparently are even better on darker nights (the moon was quite bright when we went). It was also really nice to see the stars on such a clear night on the river. The local food after the cruise was amazing and there was so much of it we couldn't eat it all.

Went to the firefly tour and had a wonderful time exploring the mangroves looking for monkeys along the water, saw some proboscis monkeys and other monkeys. We watched the sunset from the boat, caught some fish and then when the sun went down saw some beautiful twinkling fireflies along the mangove trees! Had such a wonderful experience and so thankful tl have had an amazing and knowledgeable driver - Abdul - who took us there, came along on the boat ride and had so many interesting facts about the surrounding environment, such a lovely guy highly recommended taking his number if you are in the Sandakan/Sepilok area and want to learn about the area whilst exploring it!
