I had a great half day with Reuben at Lake Duluti and at "The Small Things" office in Usa River region. It was a great way of combining support for local communities and tourism.
The lake is very peaceful and you can enjoy a lot of wildlife, especially birds but also some big lizard (not to worry though, everything was really safe!). I suggest you have lunch there because there is the Duluti Forest Club cafe which is a pretty magic spot on the lake.
Reuben hired a local guide who was also rowing for us, so there is little effort involved which was good for me after hiking Kilimanjaro.
After Duluti we visited The Small Things office and its school/dormitories. It is a great organization with a very unique goal of returning kids to their families, so they see residential care as a temporary solution which i found very interesting. There is a lot more that they do so I encourage you to check on their website or - better - spend a day with Reuben who will explain very well and also engage you in their mission.
Thanks a lot to The Small Things and Reuben for the great day and for helping their communities with the revenues from the tours!
