    The Norman Palace. Construction on the palace started in the 9th century when Sicily was under Islamic rule, though it was renovated by the Normans in 1072 when their empire spread across Europe. Now, it’s the home of the Sicilian Regional assembly. You’ll get exclusive entrance into the palace and its gardens. Though not as well known as Rome’s Sistine Chapel or Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, the Cappella Palatina (or Palatine Chapel) is one of the most spectacular in all of Italy. The chapel, on the second-floor of the palace, was built in 1140 and gives an insight into the arts, science and philosophy of the dominant Western and Middle Eastern cultures at that time. See traditional Islamic designs, Byzantine mosaics, and golden decorations in one of the best examples of the Arab - Norman - Byzantine style. Not only do your tickets allow you entrance to the palace and chapel, but you can explore the gardens too with your expert guide

What a fantastic venue. The Norman Palace and the Palentine chapel are wonders to behold. The artwork and frescos and golden mosaics all came to life through the emotional and incredible commentary from our super tour guide VALERIA. Valeria also gave a real sense of the many cultures that influenced the palace - Phonecian; Moorish; Norman; Roman; Greek etc. - and answered all the questions from the group. This tour is not to be missed. Thank you Valeria.

The Norman Palace and Palatine Chapel were rich with Sicilian history. Our guide, Valeria, is a native Sicilian with extensive knowledge of the two sites. Her English is superb and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience.

The palace is amazing. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. I highly recommend There is a lot of standing required so it might not be suitable for someone with mobility issues

It was obvious that Debbie, our Italian guide, appreciates the history and significance of this ancient place - she was a student of History at University, and is now a teacher. The walk gives a sense of the many cultures present in Sicily that make up what it is today, and if you are like me, had no idea were present - Roman, Greek, Moorish, even Northern Europe. Marvel at the gorgeous golden mosaics, the blend of architecture and sense of history. Just do it - but ask for Debbie!
