Overview

Hop aboard our sturdy vessel for a one hour Wildlife Cruise, departing from Wellers Rock Wharf on the Otago Peninsula. You'll travel out through the Otago Harbour to the world's only mainland colony of royal albatross. Have your camera ready as these huge birds soar in from sea, flying past a historic lighthouse as they return to their hillside nests. The skipper will expertly maneuver the boat close to rocky outcrops for great views of the local fur seal population. A short way out to sea and you'll see other albatross and seabird species. Our cruises also frequently spot blue penguins, sea lions and occasionally dolphins! The crew will provide a full commentary during your cruise about the local history, scenery and wildlife spotted along the way. Don't be put off by cool & windy weather. These are often the best conditions for wildlife viewing. Especially when it comes to albatross, they love a brisk southerly wind. Binoculars and warm jackets are provided during your cruise.

Excellent tour had a wonderful scenery.

Excellent tour staff were all really helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We saw a number of different birds all of which we were were able to identify through the staff and a couple of seals and a sea loin. Gave us great advise about where go after trip for sea lions on the beach . Thing to know you have to make your own way to where the boat leaves from which is quite a way out of town so you need transport.

Seldom comment on activities but this was special if you want to see albatrosses close up in action. Simply stunning boat captain excellent with commentary etc. a highlight

We had a great time on the Monarch 1hour boat trip, seeing many albatross, plus sea lions, seals and a penguin. The commentary was entertaining and informative, the spotters helpful and the boat felt safe and was not overcrowded - everybody had a good view. Easy to find the start along a lovely, scenic route.

Had a lovely time! Both the captain and guide were very knowledgeable and were always on the search for wildlife. Managed to observe Petrals, shearwater and a number of species of albatross as well as a few Hectors dolphin following a fishing boat returning to harbour. Great experience!
