Overview

We will take a comfortable walk through the wonders of the historic center of Palermo and the Mercato del Capo to capture the scents and colors of the old city. You will be able to observe extraordinary places and characters and admire some of the most important monuments of the city, such as the Teatro Massimo, the Duomo (we will visit the interior), the great Fontana Pretoria, the grandiose square called "i Quattro You sing" and much more. In the famous Mercato del Capo (of Arab origin) we will stop for about half an hour (at Dainotti's) where you can taste, some of the best local Palermo specialties. Then, taste some local specialties from Palermo. Tuck into some sfincione (dough topped with onion, bread crumbs, tomato, and oregano), panelle (fried chickpea flour), crocché (potato croquettes), arancine (rice croquettes stuffed with meat or butter), and cannolo (crunchy shell with sweet -cheese). Refresh yourself with a drink, to close off your tour in style.

    We will visit Il Capo, one of the three historical markets of Palermo, (the others are Ballarò and Vucciria). We will immerse ourselves in a mix of smells, flavors, scents, sounds. All the senses will be strongly stimulated along this journey into the true soul of the city. Sale of everything that exists fresh from vegetables and fruit at will to fish in infinite abundance, meats, aromas and spices.

  • Fontana della Vergogna

    It is one of the symbols of the Sicilian capital, considered one of the most beautiful Italian fountains. It is made up of 48 statues of white Carrara marble, sculpted in full Renaissance by Tuscan sculptors. Purchased in 1573 by the Palermitan Senate it will be nicknamed by the Palermitans, since then, the Fountain of Shame, for a series of numerous reasons that will be told during the tour.

    I Quattro Canti, piazza Villena, (also called Ottagono del Sole, or Teatro del Sole) is the name of an extraordinary and scenic octagonal square built in the early 1600s at the intersection of the two main roads of Palermo: via Maqueda and the Cassaro, (today Via Vittorio Emanuele) at about half of their length. It is the center of the ancient city.

Fabrizio was a knowledgeable and organized guide for the monuments and markets of Palermo. He shared information about history and folklore which enhanced our sense of the local culture. We would recommend this tour to others as a helpful orientation to the city of Palermo.

A fabulous mix of food and cultural highlights

A great tour with a mix of culture and food. Fabrizio was really helpful recommending a place to park near the start of the tour and he was charming and engaging on the tour itself, which was a perfect mix of food and cultural visits. The cathedral visit needs your shoulders covered so take a scarf or buy one at the entrance. We enjoyed watching the arancini being made in the market and the rest stop at this restaurant was very relaxed and welcome in the heat, with beer and water freely available. Do watch your pockets in the narrow market: one of the other tour participants had their phone and wallet scanned through his back pocket but thankfully he felt it happening and he was able to cancel his card before it was cloned and used.

This tour was so amazing. The perfect amount of food, walking, and history about Palermo. Fabrizio was so interesting and passionate about his city. Our family had a 7 and 11 year old and they both loved the tour. It was an extremely hot day but he ensured we were in shade and still enjoyed the city. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone in Palermo.
