Discover Jasper National Park’s spectacular Maligne Valley on a 6-hour adventure with an expert guide. During stops at Maligne Canyon, Medicine Lake and Maligne Lake, you’ll look for wildlife and learn about the human and natural history in this part of the Canadian Rockies. You’ll see stunning scenery throughout the day and have plenty of opportunities to take photos and short walks. At Maligne Lake, choose to take a boat cruise to Spirit Island or a guided walk along the lakeshore. **Please note the guided walk does not include Spirit Island, you must select BOAT option for this tour to see Spirit Island**

Itinerary

  • Maligne Canyon

    You’ll stop first at Maligne Canyon where a short walk takes you across two bridges over a 165 foot (50m) deep gorge that has been carved into the limestone. Catch great views of the waterfalls spilling into the canyon below as you explore the area with your guide, who will share information about the geology and wildlife in the area.

  • Medicine Lake

    After checking out Maligne Canyon, you’ll continue to drive to Medicine Lake, taking a gorgeous road that winds through a dramatic mountain and forest landscape. Medicine Lake is famous for ‘vanishing’ every summer, the result of an extensive underground karst system — one of the largest in the world.

  • Maligne Lake

    From Medicine Lake you’ll follow the road to gorgeous Maligne Lake where you’ll have a choice of a boat cruise to Spirit Island or a 2-mile (3.2km) guided hike on an easy and level trail Please Note: Spirit Island can only be seen by water and is only available to visit by choosing the Boat Cruise not the Guided Hike If you choose the hiking option, you’ll follow your guide on the Mary Schaffer Loop trail, which skirts the shore of Maligne Lake to a beautiful viewpoint with interpretive displays and benches before continuing into the trees and back to your starting point. If you choose to take the boat cruise, you will board a comfortable enclosed boat with large windows for a scenic tour on Maligne Lake. Your boat will stop at Spirit Island, a small gem in the lake, where you’ll have time for photos and a short stroll. **Please note this is NOT included for guests who choose the WALK option**

  • Jasper National Park

    Throughout the day, your guide will explain the natural and human history of the area and will keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife that lives here. Sightings may include bear, deer, caribou, wolves, moose, bighorn sheep, bald eagles and osprey, among the many animals of Jasper National Park. At the end of your tour, you will be returned to your Jasper hotel.

Jasper Canada’s wonder of the world

The beauty of this part cannot be explained in words. It can only be experienced with eyes, animals all around you beautiful, towering mountains, and glaciers.. we went on a boat cruise to the secret island on Mula Lake(may have spelt that wrong sorry) camping there is so luxurious. If you have an RV, lots of plug-ins fire pits, the staff comes from all over the world to work there we met a lot of people from New Zealand and Australia., we are viewed all the way through and we can’t wait to do it again

We did three tours with three different drivers/guides and each was excellent. Of special note, Norm and Sean are exceptional guides! They are friendly, intelligent, insightful, and inspiring. Norm is among the planet’s best storytellers. Philosophical. Uplifting. Engaging. So very kind. Sean is an absolute joy! So friendly and so kind. And truly humble and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend these people of Sun Dog Tours!

The scenery was amazing!!! We saw some wildlife - including twin eaglets - which is evidently unusual! Our guide, Fred, was a great educator and very entertaining!!!

As we boarded our Brewster bus for a tour of Jasper, Maligne valley and a lake excursion to Spirit Island, we knew we were in for a treat upon meeting Colin, our fantastically warm, funny, and informative driver/guide! Then we came face to face with Logan and the deal was sealed... we were in for the time of our lives! It didn't hurt that the scenery was gorgeous, the lake stunning, and the meal at Brewster Lodge outstanding... these two Brewster employees were the cherry on top of the cake! With their high level of service, exceeding all expectations, we have become Brewster fans for life!

Stunning views, Yvonne our guide was very informative and told lots of history and other interesting details about the area. The tour was small enough that it wasn’t rushed or waiting on people. The time given at each stop was perfect! Would recommend this tour!
