That's why we created this extension of the visit beyond the University of Coimbra. The city of Coimbra has one of the most important histories in Portugal. Famous for its University, it is also very important for the history of the Portuguese nation as it was the first capital of the country. It is in this context that we will take a guided tour of the University and city of Coimbra; be prepared for a lot of walking and history.

  • Universita Di Coimbra

    We will start the visit to the city of Coimbra through the University, we will visit the Paço das Escolas, the Joanina Library, São Miguel Chapel and the Royal Palace).

  • Se Nova Catedral de Coimbra (Pass By)

    We will pass by the Sé Nova Cathedral and continue our visit through the historic part of the city.

  • Se Velha De Coimbra

    The Old Cathedral is located in one of the most tourist spots in the city of Coimbra and consequently in one of the oldest places in the history of the Portuguese nation.

  • Porta da Barbaca (Pass By)

    We will pass through the main portal of the ancient walled city of Coimbra.

  • Igreja de Santa Cruz

    At this point, we will talk about Rua da Sofia, Pátio da Iniquiricao and end our guided tour at the beautiful Santa Cruz Church.

Renan was absolutely amazing. His knowledge of Portugese history was incredible and his passion for Coimbra, and in particular the University where he had studied, was infectious. We learnt so much in such a short period of time and had enormous fun. We could have listened to his stories for hours longer. We would HIGHLY recommend to anyone wanting to get a genuine taste of this beautiful and important part of Portugal.

This was one of the best tours I've taken. From the instructions on where to meet to the tour itself, Renen was an incredible guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the area and this is evident in his stories about the old university, the Joanina library, and the old town of Coimbra. I learned more about Portugal's history in a few hours than I did in the many years of visits to Portugal. Highly recommend this tour!
