    With its imposing Arch towering in the center of the wide space, Piazza della Vittoria–named so to celebrate the end of World War I–is one of the hubs of the city center.

  • Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta di Carignano

    This building is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the power and devotion of the noble Genoese families of the Renaissance. Religious architecture here reflected both the faith and the social status of its patrons.

  • La Casa di Colombo

    There are some “historical dates” that are fixed in my mind since I was in school. Perhaps THE most memorable date is that of October 12, 1492 when Christopher Columbus, the Genoese explorer who first sailed from Europe to the Americas ! We are going to walk close to his place! Ticket cost: 3€

    It is impossible not to be captivated by the majesty of its black-and-white striped facade, the bell tower towering over the historic center, and the intricate details that make the building a true architectural masterpiece. This is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Genoa’s main church.

    Piazza San Matteo is a well-preserved example of an early medieval aristocratic settlement. With its 14th-century church of the same name and surrounded by palaces with characteristic black and white bands, it represented the power center of the Doria family, a tangible sign of their influence in medieval Genoa.

  • Via Giuseppe Garibaldi

    Its construction took about 40 years and began thanks to what can be called Europe’s first urban allotment plan, starring one of the richest families in the city, the Grimaldis, who bought the entire area and transformed it into one of the most beautiful and sumptuous areas in Europe.

    Genoa is characterized by narrow streets, and getting a view of the city from above is never easy. That is why this Belvedere will leave you speechless!

Great tour and food tips

I really enjoyed the historical town of Genoa, and also the old port. I can definitely recommend this tour. Also food lovers, like me, will have a great time while doing this tour.

Great tour but be careful of using lift at Belvedere Castelletto!

A great little tour, so many highlights of Genoa and really appreciated the food recommendations! Only thing I would point out is be careful using the lift to get to number 9 Belvedere Castelletto. If you are a tourist, there are sometimes ATM attendants at the top who are very forceful and aggressive in trying to fine you €42 for not buying a ticket, they won’t even let you go back down to buy one, you are literally just stuck there until you pay. If this happens to you, tell them you cannot pay as do not have card/cash on you, and do not give them your passport. Leave your name and a fake address and they will give you a fine receipt, they let us go after this and we didn’t have to pay anything. I’m guessing they might send a fine to this address but obviously we won’t know. Terrible that they are scamming people like this! If it’s so serious then they should have attendants downstairs making sure people buy the tickets. Didn’t dampen the tour though, we still had a great time! Just wanted to point this out to other tourists.

A wonderful way to see Genoa at your own pace

We are only in Genoa for a couple of days and used Matteo's tour to see many of the main sights. We enjoyed the detailed audio and text commentary, maps and images. It's a fairly strenuous walk (or it was in August heat), but really well worth it! He was also available on WhatsApp if we needed any further advice. Incredibly cheap, and highly recommended.
