Our day on the water with Marion and Nikos was the highlight of our trip! And our trip was amazing which speaks to how much we loved this tour. They realized the day before that the winds would be tough making the water choppy from the west, so our route was shifted to Kleftico, Tsigrados, and Gerakes, which gave us a very calm day. I can get motion sickness and did not have any issues.
Marion was incredibly informative (switching seamlessly between English and French) as we approached each place. It gave so much perspective on the island and the beaches that we wouldnāt have gotten alone. Not only was it informative, but her enthusiasm was infectious.
Kleftico (only accessed from the water):
We hurried there early in the day and were one of the first boats to arrive which gave us such a quiet start. Nikos took us in a dingy to explore up close, going through tunnels and showing us closeup details, which very few got to do. We got to snorkel through the tunnels, with options presented from easy to challenging. There was even a rock formation that Nikos led some of the group members to jump off. One of the beautiful things about the trip is the choose-your-own adventure part of it. Want to stay in the boat and watch -sure! Want to swim and/or snorkel - sure! Want to stretch yourself with some tricky tunnels or jumping off a high rock - sure! So many options with no pressure.
Tsigrados (only accessible from the water or by crazy, dilapidated ladders, which Iāll say no thank you please):
This one is often called the āladder beachā, but we got to approach it from the water. Not only did we not have to stand in line to come down a tall ladder (that lost a rung only 10 days before), but Nikos took us snorkeling through some incredible tunnels and caves and we didnāt see any of the beach goers do that.
Gerakes (only accessible from the water):
Only others there were some kayakers and one other small boat. Clear blue waters. Quiet time to relax and reflect. So beautiful and serene!
Food:
In between our water adventures Marion served (homemade, although Iāll dare say boat-made) breakfast and lunch. All traditional dishes like watermelon pie. All delicious! Drinks offered throughout the day.
Boat;
Our accommodations for the day were perfect. Beautiful sailboat where you could choose from a seating area or lounge areas towards the bow. Below deck was a restroom and an area where we could keep our bags. Nikos joked that 95% of what everyone brought wouldnāt be used. He was right - his list of swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen was accurate. Iāll add phone to the list for the incredible photo ops. I also brought a waterproof phone case with a neck strap so I could take it snorkeling and through the tunnels. Highly recommend!
We even got to take a group picture when we arrived back on shore which Marion sent to us. After spending the day together it was fitting for us to capture our group!
This may be the longest review I have ever written, but the day was that amazing! Highly recommend and will do it again when we return to Milos. You donāt walk away feeling like you āsawā the hard-to-reach beaches, but that you experienced them!
Miss Nikos and Marion already!
