This tour has to be the best of the best of Champagne tours! Everything was perfect from our early morning pick-up to drop-off at our hotel that night. Reims, the capital of the Champagne region, is just 90 miles or 140 km (45 minutes by fast train or two hours by car) north-east away. Our day trip began with a typical French breakfast of the most deliciously fresh patisserie we've ever eaten. Before we knew it, the cityscape had been replaced by countryside and vineyards as far as we could see. We stopped among the vines and signs posted by famous Champagne houses, including Bollinger, Veuve Clique and Moet & Chandon, where our guide Trong Nguyen (an amazingly knowledgeable former banker who is also a small wine producer) shared insights to the local industry. From there, we visited a boutique Champagne house where we tasted three beautiful and tasty champaigns, before experiencing a behind the scenes tour not usually available to visitors. After an AMAZING three-course lunch at a fabulous restaurant in Mr. Nguyen's neighborhood, we walked the heart of the city and visited Reims Cathedral, with so much rich history and yet another highlight. Then it was off to Pommery, a 50-hectare estate with 18km of cellars, home since 1837 to not just this prestigious wine but an amazing collection of contemporary artworks. Having visited vineyards in Italy, my husband and I highly recommend this day tour from Paris - it was the best! Thank you, Trong, whose commitment to the Champagne industry, and public service is exceptional, and to the family of Jean Claude Mouzon, for the up-close and personal tour. You will not be disappointed in this tour!
