Itinerary

  • Carara National Park

    Unveil the complex ecology of the flora and fauna at the Rainforest of Carara National Park. We will hike through the National Park Trails ranging from secondary forest to primary and old-growth forest. The canopy will reach more than 40m high with huge wild-cashew trees and figs watching us from above. This worldwide acclaimed destination for birdwatchers is also full of other vertebrates like mammals (monkeys, agoutis, deers...), amphibians, reptiles, and a myriad of invertebrates dwelling on the forest litter. You will be in the shoes of an XVIII century naturalist, asking yourself important questions about nature, ecology and contemplating in-depth the magic of the tropics.

    Tarcoles river is regarded as the most polluted River basin in Central America, one recognition that we costaricans feel very ashamed of. However, we will navigate the Tarcoles river mouth into a mangrove forest where the wetlands will show us all their biodiversity and hopefully start changing the fate of this wonderful place. Bring your binoculars because we will spot dozens of amazing birds, crocodiles, and other types of lizards on this relaxing but exciting experience with local boatmen.

Great experience for wildlife and nature!

The experience was great by having a nature and wildlife focused tour, with a specialist as Rigo, which allowed us to see a lot of beautiful birds, monkeys and crocs, while learning a lot from plants and vegetation as well. Overall it was a great experience that I would hands down do again!

Eduardo was amazing! He was incredibly knowledgeable and his English was excellent. We essentially had a private tour of the jungle and joined a small group for the river portion. I would highly recommend Oropopo Experience Tours!

We had a great day out with Eduardo Romano. He's very knowledgeable about the flora & fauna in the Carara and Tarcoles area. Despite some traffic problems, he managed to avoid most of the rain too. We saw many birds and several crocs along the Tarcoles river. Came back with some great photos too!

Great way to see a ton of birds and wildlife with helpful guide

Our guide Eduardo was incredibly knowledgeable about the local flora, fauna, fungi, and area. Definitely a worthwhile trip if you want to see a lot of birds, get up close with crocodiles, and explore the trails at Carara spying bats, monkeys, frogs, plants, fungi, insects, and learn about the ecosystem. We had a great lunch afterwards too. We were a small group of 3 plus the guide, so we were able to move about and see a lot. The drive to and from the park can be lengthy with traffic, but that was a great opportunity to chat more with Eduardo about ecotourism, his work with wildlife rescues, and his nature photography. Would highly recommend this guide and tour. Tour was easy to book, easy to schedule pick up/drop off, worth the $, and would love to do more tours with Oropopo my next trip! Sincerely, a giant nature nerd :)

Fantastic experiencw, highly recommended. The guide Andre was knowleadgeble and filled all my request. The walk in Carara was great. The diversity of birds in the Tarcoles river is nowhere to be found. The lunch on a secluded beach restaurant was super tasty, fresh seafood.
