Overview

The Domus Aurea Tour will take you back to the time of Emperor Nero, you will get to learn more about the bizarre myths and stories of his pleasure palace while walking inside the various chambers. Explore the tunnels of the palace, its stunning frescoes and impressive architecture - don't forget to look up! This is an unique experience in one of the most exciting active excavation sites in Rome.

Meeting points

Your guide will be on the corner of Via Nicola Salvi and Via delle Terme di Tito, in front of Oppio Caffe. If you are using GPS or GoogleMaps, the exact address is Via delle Terme di Tito 72. Your guide will have a Through Eternity sign or flag.

  • As this is a walking tour with steps, staircases and uneven surfaces, comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are strongly recommended.

  • This is an inside archaeological site and even in the summer it can be cold, so you are advised to wear suitable clothing for this tour.

A neglected gem

An incredibly beautiful visut with an excellent guide and a wonderful "virtual reality" experience. You will need to book it in avance because group are by necessity small, but do try to fit this visit in your programme

Our guide Patrick was exceptional, “6stars”? He mentioned that the order of the rooms on display had been changed and that sometimes that could happen with very little notice, so the tour did not last the full time, but he took us down to the gladiator’s training site and gave us a very interesting insight into what that involved. I thought that showed a lot of professionalism on his part. The virtual experience was almost overwhelming.
