    Meeting point at your hotel and departure to the famous Pompeii, the ancient Roman city which was buried by the lava during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Due to its healthy climate and pleasant scenery, Pompeii was a holiday resort for rich Romans. Your guide will warmly welcome you at entrance of the excavations and will take you to an unforgettable walking visit of around 2 hours in history! Discover how everything here has remained intact, preserved over time by the lava of Vesuvius, learn the interesting story of the daily life of the ancient Romans and admire the unique buildings, houses and temples made with advanced architectural techniques.

    At the end lunch in a typical restaurant then continue to the famous Herculaneum, the ancient Roman city which, according the legend, was founded by Hercules and which was buried with mud, cinder and lava during the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Your guide will warmly welcome you at entrance of the excavations and will take you to an unforgettable walking visit of 1h30min in history! Herculaneum, unlike Pompeii, was mainly covered by ash and mud, only partially by lava, so everything is better preserved than Pompeii: still houses have their doors and frescos in a very good status. This village was smaller than Pompeii and was mainly a residential area.

Wonderful day in Pompeii & Herculaneum

Alessandro and Aldo were the ultimate guides with stories and history of Southern Italy, Naples, and Pompeii & Herculaneum. The tours of both Pompeii and Herculaneum were very informative and we appreciated the small group size. So glad we booked this tour because we saw and learned so much that we wouldn’t have on our own. Highly recommend!!

This is a very enjoyable and informative tour. Our guide Giuseppe and driver Rosario were a joy. They made us feel like family and took great care of us with fun times all around, especially during the transit time. We highly recommend this tour. It is a great value and something you should book if you are in Naples.

Very knowledgeable tour guides and a well-paced walk around the most interesting parts of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Driver was kind enough to drop guests at hotels after tour completion.

There’s MUCH MORE to the eruption story!

The group we happened to be with was great. Our “tour guide” was not who actually led the tours of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The stop at Pompeii started with a “tour” of a cameo shop - which was mainly high pressure sales of cameo jewelry. Pompeii itself was really interesting. The size and amount of excavation was larger than we expected - as was the quality of items recovered. There were a lot of tourists, but we were able to cover the entire site without rushing. Herculaneum was more interesting to me - partly because our guide knew so much about it and had the ability to show details without being the least bit boring. The differences between the two sites were obvious, so if you see just one site you would really not understand what happened when Vesuvius erupted - and you would not know the impact it has had on the entire area through the years.
