Chania city is quite unique because it’s been influenced by many cultures over the centuries. From Roman king Kidon to rulers of Byzantine Empire, from Venetian royalties to Turkish conquerors. You can see here wonderful palaces, paved streets, defensive forts. Every building here reminds of a difficult yet so interesting fate of Chania. We’ll walk to Old Market, which is considered one of the best in Europe. The saying “Greece has everything” turns out to be true here. Local produce, honey, tea and coffee, seafood and fish. Our next stop is Chrissopigi monastery, one of the most famous nunneries in Greece today. It was intended as male monastery when it was founded in the 16th century, However, during many centuries Crete struggled with occupations and conquests, the monastery suffered as well and was finally destroyed in 1821 during the Revolution. In 1976, the first three nuns of today's fraternity returned to the monastery to rebuild it and restore all the historical heirlooms. Nowadays, nuns are involved in doing embroidery, preservation of old books and icons, bookbinding, book publishing, apiculture, candle making, production of incense and soap, etc.

The Saturday local market starts really early in the morning with local vendors selling everything from Fruits , Vegetables, honey , olives , dried fruits and meat , poultry and clothes and home articles also ! Walked the complete market ! Outside loud and fun !

Best Tour of our Mediterranean Cruise!

Our tour and guide could not have been better! We booked a private tour for 5 of us. The driver was courteous and patient, the van was clean and comfortable, and our guide, Maria, was outstanding! She was flexible in our tour so we could spend more time at places that particularly interested us and less at others. At our invitation, she joined us for lunch and helped us select a variety of dishes that were authentically regional. The places we stopped were wonderful and Maria was knowledgeable and helpful everywhere we went. We all agreed that this was the most enjoyable tour on our Mediterranean cruise!
