We didn't intend to visit Muir Woods on our trip to San Francisco - but I'm so glad that the concierge at our hotel talked us into it! What a spectacular morning - and hassle-free from beginning to end.
The trip to Muir Woods was enjoyable, with a quick photo stop at the Golden Gate Bridge for those who wanted to take it. The small coach was comfortable - despite being fully booked.
Nothing prepares you for the majesty of Muir Woods. I know that, if you've been to the likes of Yosemite, it may seem small scale. However, coming from the UK, it was a real eye-opening experience of the sheer size of the trees in this part of the US. We got to see some wildlife during our time at Muir Woods - and I was particularly pleased to see my first ever chipmunk in the wild!
We had a lovely driver / guide who told stories from his own life, as well as giving really informative historical and geographical snippets. He really made the trip (we think his name was James).
We left the trip at Sausalito, choosing to spend a little longer there, and using our Clipper card to get a cut-price ride back on the ferry (worth looking into at ~50% less than the tourist boats).
