Overview

As I (Albert Coffee, vaccinated) guide you through this magical place, where I had the privilege of participating during the 2004 excavation field season, I'll share what I have gleaned through personal hands-on experience & years of study about ancient Mesoamerica, the legends & wisdom of local people. I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and federally licensed tour guide. This special tour includes years of documented legends, wisdom & memories of the elders of the ranch communities on and around the historic location. You will hear about each place and its cultural significance as you journey along the path the ancients took to reach the pyramid. I've taken 20,000+ people on tours since the site opened to the public in 2011. My passion is relating information that is just coming to light in an area recently investigated in an enjoyable way. Itinerary

Canada de la Virgen

The best way to visit the Cañada de la Virgen is with an expert guide. Along the way, Albert will share his knowledge of cultures of the Bajio region, including the Otomi people and other Mesoamerican cultures. After visiting the Welcome Center, we will walk a total of approximately 3 kilometers (2 miles) together, taking the same path as the ancients. Albert will show you recent discoveries at the archaeological site and you’ll be able to climb to the top of the pyramid. Along the way, you will see the impressive landscapes as your mind goes on a journey. You will leave with a more thorough knowledge of this wonderful, historical site.

Great Tour Lead by a Very Knowledgeable Archeologist Guide

Albert was a terrific and knowledgeable guide. He demonstrated his deep knowledge of mesoamerican cultures, and we learned so much about this archeological site and its relationship to other sites and other cultures and peoples in the Americas. But Albert was not cut and dry. He was snarky...ironic and outright funny at times....all of which added to the experience. He also shared a bit about his personal history as an expat in San Miguel which we found to be fascinating and gave us insights into the expat community. We highly recommend this tour

Outstanding experience. The guide is Informative, engaging, with outstanding public-speaking skills. He touched on so many items of interest that we are seeking links to his publications. Beautiful setting and pleasant walk around the site. Highly recommend the tour. Tasty tacos on-site after the tour. His website references longer tours that seem very appealing.

This was a fantastic tour and the guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. It was well-worth the trip and I recommend having lunch at the family ranch afterwards.

This is our second trip out to the archaeological site with Albert Coffee and he never disappoints! He is an excellent guide and his knowledge of the peoples who once inhabited this area is impressive. Having done work on the site himself, he offers keen insight into the ‘dig’ itself and the natural habitat around the site. Always fascinating! I recommend his tours highly!

We really lucked out with having Albert Coffee for our guide. The knowledge and breadth of the pyramid really brought the history of Mesoamerica to life. And there were delicious tacos available at the end!
