The Wasabi farm is a popular tourist friendly destination and is comprised of many large fields with a meticulously maintained network of small streams that constantly provides each wasabi plant with pure clean water. Wasabi is an essential element in Japanese cooking, but a lot of people, even many Japanese, are not aware of where it comes from. Take a stroll through the Wasabi fields and discover all the secrets of the Wasabi! We recommend you try some of the many different Wasabi-flavored products during your visit, such as Wasabi ice cream, Wasabi beer, Wasabi sausages or even a Wasabi burger! • Daio Wasabi Farm

The base of the Japanese Alps is home to several Wasabi farms, from the small plots nestled among the multitude of rice fields to Japan’s largest Wasabi farm. Thanks to the fabulous natural environment of the region, a journey into this Japanese countryside is a unique experience not to be missed! Established in 1915, Daio Wasabi Farm is highly photogenic and the perfect setting in which to dive into the history and versality of this surprising green plant. Wasabi is an essential element in Japanese cuisine and is particularly renowned as an accompaniment to Japanese sushi. A visit to a wasabi farm is a world of discovery in all the secrets of this famously zesty ingredient. Please note that the round trip from/to Matsumoto and the Wasabi Farm takes approximately 30 minutes subject to traffic conditions

Unique experience well worth the detour

Published on Nov, 2024

This is such a cool and unique experience. We are foodies and like to cook and couldn’t pass up an experience that explored such an interesting ingredient and staple of Japanese food. The car was 15 acres and is one of the biggest producers of wasabi in Japan/world. The guide was very knowledgeable and guided us through this enormous farm efficiently. We got to see, taste and learn about wasabi. Definitely gave us new insights on Japanese cuisine and culture. We were staying in Nagano. But easily travelled to Akashina via train and went to farm via taxi. Highly recommend to friends and family when they come up this way. Would be a good experience in any weather.

Interesting tour with great guide

Tom was a very nice guide, he took us to less known spots in the farm and also translated some of the main information in the farm's museum, which is mostly in Japanese. He was also very open to talk to us about Japanese culture and gave us great tips for our upcoming destinations in Japan, so we highly recommend this tour!

Wasabi Ice Cream--who knew?

Published on May, 2024

We had a relaxing and informative afternoon exploring the Wasabi Farm with Naomi. She was a great guide who spoke excellent English (she was an English teacher in her prior life) and provided insights into not only all-things-wasabi, but also the surrounding region and Japanese culture in general. If you are a foodie interested in a deeper dive into the food you consume, or just want a slightly less standard experience while vacationing in Japan, I highly recommend taking this tour with Naomi. And try the wasabi ice cream--it's subtle and surprisingly delicious!

Great hosts

This was a great tour! Our train was cancelled from Nagano, so we had to take the bus to get to Matsumoto. Sylvain and Carol were extremely gracious and stayed an extra hour so that they could give us the full tour. We had some great wasabi ice cream and learned a lot about wasabi! Highly recommend!
