From Ponta Delgada city centre by auto, head East by the coast following directions to Vila Franca do Campo. Once here, descend towards sea level and the Marina’s first Pier A where our Base and Yellow Zodiac Boats are stationed, and free parking can be found. (GPS: 37.715780, -25.429745)

    The tour starts with a short briefing introducing the islet’s geology and wildlife, the nature reserve’s, and boat safety. Follow the Guide and Skipper to your designated boat for 5-minute travel by sea to the Islet.

    Enjoy a boat exploration to see and admire the volcanic marvel and its notorious geological features and the seasonal highlights of marine life, with an enchanting narrative while circling the Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo. A beautiful exposed relic of an oceanic volcanic cone and unique wildlife-thriving maritime sanctuary sculpted by the forces of sea and seismic activity, for Birds and Fish to even Lightfoot Crabs, it is especially life-rich from Fall to Spring! It is also a prominent influential factor in Vila Franca do Campo and the island’s history, a representation of the resilient embrace of life on the edge of the Atlantic. Your guide will keep you informed on what you are observing and is available for any specific questions - feel free to ask!

    After a 40 minute boat tour it is time to head back to the Marina for check-out. Know before you go: Eat light, and bring your personal water supply, sunscreen and chapstick for the Sun. Light food is permitted, and a Camera is essential, especially for photography lovers - protect any personal equipment. NOT FOR anyone pregnant, with weak back, in wheelchair or delicate health conditions, or under the age of 4. Bathing is not permitted on this tour.

Great experience. We got quite close to the island. The guide was quite knowledgeable about the area and was able to answer all our questions. Rain coats were supplied, if you didn’t have your own, and rain pants too if you wanted. I had my own rain coat but didn’t wear rain pants. My top was dry but one leg got wet from the splashing water coming into the boat.

It was an amazing experience. We've received a very thorough explanation. Beautiful views and fun boat ride. People doing the tours are real ocean enthusiast.

Though it was a simple and basic tour it was well done, interesting and fun. You can also choose to stay in the town after the tour is done to explore Vila Franca do Campo and have lunch or dinner at the amazing Black Whale restaurant in the centre of town.

Once chance to see the island from the water. Good information. Just fun quick and easy. Parking at the Marina is a bit tricky. But a great leap off in the morning to explore that side of the island.
