Overview

We will start our day at the tourist dock in Ushuaia. From there, we will travel along Route No. 3 and Route J in a comfortable bus, where you will have the opportunity to marvel at the beauty of our Tierra del Fuego forest, en route to the fascinating Martillo Island. Once we arrive at the boarding area, we will board a semi-rigid boat to enjoy a navigation of approximately 20 minutes that will take us to the island. There, we will walk for an hour alongside the Magellanic and Gentoo penguins, guided by a specialist who will share fascinating information about the life of these incredible animals. At the end of this experience, we will begin the return to the city. Later, we will meet again at our office to begin another exciting journey: a navigation through the imposing Beagle Channel. During this tour, we will have the opportunity to observe the Tierra del Fuego birdlife on the Isla de Pájaros and Isla de Lobos, as well as the iconic Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse.

  • Due to low availability for this tour for the following reasons: - Penguins are very sensitive to human contact, so they can only be visited by a few people a day. - There is only one penguin colony in Ushuaia - This tour is the most exclusive and requested in South America, for this reason we ask for patience for confirmations of visits
  • Does not include lunch or meals
  • This tour has very limited availability, we will confirm availability upon receiving your reservation.
  • This tour will be confirmed once the agency sends the passenger's request to the penguin colony. For this reason, do not consider the reservation confirmed until you receive confirmation from the Azul Latina agency through this channel.
  • Morning Itinerary: The meeting point will be at the Tourist Pier in Ushuaia. Passengers must present themselves at 6:30 AM - check-in to board the bus will be at 7:00 AM.
  • Afternoon itinerary: Upon returning from the Magellan Penguin Colony, passengers will have free time to go to lunch in the city of Ushuaia. The estimated time for passengers to tour the city on their own is from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at which time passengers must again present themselves at the tourist dock to begin the navigation to the Island of Wolves and Birds.
  • IMPORTANT Passengers will take the combined tour: sailing in the morning and walking in the afternoon, or vice versa. The agenda with the times to meet at the pier will be sent to you along with the confirmation of your reservation and the itinerary by the Azul Latina agency. Therefore, we ask you to wait for the schedule itinerary that will be sent to you through the platform.
  • The published times are ESTIMATED. Confirmation of the final schedule will be sent to you along with the itinerary after confirmation of your reservation by the Azul Latina agency. Please wait for the detailed itinerary that you will receive through the platform.
  • The first part of the tour is on land where you will walk in the penguin colony, the second part of the tour will be a navigation where you will go to the island of Lobos and Pajaros sailing through the Beagle Channel.
  • Recommendations: - It is recommended to wear a hat, buff, waterproof jacket, trekking shoes, gloves and sunglasses.
  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Tours that coincide with Estancia Harberton's opening hours will require an entrance fee, without exception. Price to be confirmed. The Estancia is closed on Tuesdays.
  • NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY OR PREGNANT WOMEN

So worth it. We were fortunate to have Tomas as our guide. A biologist who works for Pira tours, his knowledge and love of the environment were contagious. He brought a great sense of humour along as well.

Penguins!

Great experience, and so cool to see all of the penguins up close. Guides were great, and the boat trip to the lighthouse, sea lions, and cormorant colonies was a nice bonus. Highly recommend, if you want to see the penguins up close.

Totally worth to walk among the penguins

The walk on Isla Martillo is totally worth it. We saw some boats get really close to the shore and thought that the walk might have been a waste, but eventually you start going a little deeper into the island and the nesting area. At moments you literally have to stop in order to let penguins cross the path right in front of you. You get to see much more than from the boat. The guides are knowledgeable. The museum is a good stop too. The ride there is not too long and is comfortable. Out boat ride to Beagle Channel got rescheduled due to weather conditions and the tour operator offered either a refund or the ride in another day, which we did. Very nice too, we managed to see the sea lions, birds, and even some whales showed up.

Wonderful tour, you see penguins so close! We liked the enthusiasm of the guides. The second part was a bit less interesting, but overall it was great, highly recommend.
