Itinerary

  • The National WWII Museum

Head inside The National WWII Museum with your general admission ticket and start exploring the captivating exhibition space at leisure. The Museum tells the story of the American Experience in the war that changed the worldā€”why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means todayā€”so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn. Guaranteed to move and educate, The National WWII Museum features interactive exhibits, soaring aircraft, personal histories, and more. The heart of the Museum experience, Campaigns of Courage: European and Pacific Theaters brings visitors inside the story of how the war was won. Two immersive exhibitionsā€”Road to Berlin: European Theater Galleries and Road to Tokyo: Pacific Theater Galleriesā€”feature environmental exhibits that guide visitors chronologically through the narrative of each theater of combat, using a sophisticated mix of set design, narrated and environmental videos, period newsreels, interactive oral-history kiosks, personal and digital artifacts, and dynamic displays for a uniquely evocative experience. How long you spend inside the museum is up to you! If you are hungry or simply want a break from exploring the exhibits, visit the on-site American Sector Restaurant + Bar and take a step back in time in BBā€™s Stage Door Canteen, a 1940s-style entertainment venue that showcases the music and performers of the war years. Food and drinks are at your own expense.

Must visit in New Orleans

Published on Jan, 2025

This museum is an important one and my sense is that many visitors to New Orleans do not know it exists (or they did not know before their visit that this spectacular museum is in New Orleans. It is massive and one needs to decide how much to view or to buy a two-day ticket, depending on one's interest. The opening presentation, narrated by Tom Hanks, is excellent and one should try to view it, although there is an extra charge.

This place is amazing. Plan to spend more than one day. More than just one building. There is sooooooo much to see!!!!!

Do not miss!

You start out in a train car. Don't forgot to get a dog tag before you enter, you will need one. There is a volunteer inside that will hand you one if you forget. Then you proceed into the museum. Another pointer look at the brochure, and layout. We missed building #5. They way the museum is structured is very informative and enriching. The dog tag is used throughout in certain places. You follow your person through the war. We enjoyed the museum and learning so much. There were things we didn't know. We didn't do the movies, when we go back to New Orleans we plan on attending.

Incredible experience

Published on Jan, 2025

This was an incredibly immersive experience that was laid out perfectly, separated by both the European theatre and the Pacific Theater on each floor, which flowed wonderfully into each other. The videos were extremely informative, exhibits were terrific and presented in such a way that you got a sense of the timeline of both segments of World War II, while the images and videos also showed the tragic, human cost of the war, the Holocaust, POW camps, and the Atomic Bomb. Anyone who loves history and World War II should make a point to visit this museum!

Unbelievable Experience

Published on Jan, 2025

This is truly a comprehensive experience about WW 2. The Tour information estimated a 2-3 hour visit. It is self directed. There are 7 areas discussing different aspects of the War. It was so engrossing that we were there 5 hours!! The memorabilia and news videos were beautifully done. I am not a "history buff" or a big museum person, but I say that this is probably one of the best tours we have been on. Very reasonably priced. We highly recommend this tour!
