Overview

I tailor each tour to the individual interests of the tourists in the group. I am fascinated by Cambridge's history and its magnificent sights, and have in-depth knowledge of its past and present. I can draw on my special expertise in the history of science, mathematics, and computing in Cambridge. My approach is thorough yet not too serious, sometimes light-hearted and always considerate. We shall explore the very heart of Cambridge, where new and old look out at us from every nook and cranny – hear stories of mediaeval strife and riots, struggles and labours of many a generation of students and scholars, and triumphs of the human thought. On our way, we shall discuss how ideas and life itself have changed over centuries, and what today’s Cambridge is like – both the City and the University.

What To Expect

1. St Bene't's Church (Church of England) Look at the oldest church in Cambridge; its pre-Norman tower is a thousand years old. Talk about its history and the art of bell-ringing. Then explore a medieval pub across the road and find out what its claim for fame is. 20 minutes

2. Mathematical Bridge Admire the iconic Cambridge bridge and hear the stories about its construction and punting on the river Cam. 10 minutes

3. See the building of the first physics laboratory in Cambridge and learn about some groundbreaking discoveries that were made here. 15 minutes

4. Admire the old buildings of Queens' College and talk about its past and present. 10 minutes

5. Marvel at the iconic buildings of the world-famous King's College, the Senate House, and Great St. Mary's Church, absorb the atmosphere and listen to fascinating stories of the university's past and present. 20 minutes

6. Wonder at the gate of Trinity College, and hear intriguing tales about the college, its cheeky students, and renowned scholars. 15 minutes

7. Meet the mysterious characters on the gate of St. John's College and find out who they are. 10 minutes

8. Christ's College The grounds of a Cambridge University college, beautiful inner courts and the chapel. 20 minutes
