Overview

The hours just before sunset offer the best time for paddling on the waters of Casco Bay. The sky tends to explode with color and the seas often become glassy and calm. This trip involves a leisurely paddle just far enough along the waterfront or into the islands to enjoy a panoramic view of the sun setting over the city as we paddle back to the East End Beach.  This two-hour tour is designed for paddlers of all experience levels -- including first-time kayakers. The exact route you take will depend on the weather conditions and the group's interests and experience, but the Sunset Tour often starts out venturing into the waterfront of Portland harbor, and then into the open waters towards the islands of Casco Bay. We will cancel this tour if there is steady rain, strong winds or other conditions that we believe will prevent guests from having a great paddling experience. However, we will run our tours when there are light showers, overcast skies or cooler than average temperatures.

Small Group Kayaking Tour

This was a wonderful, memorable trip. We are not kayakers, but our guide, Joe’s, love of the the water was infectious. He shared many interesting stories regarding the history of Portland’s harbor. The staff provides all the gear, and you will get a quick lesson and tips. Then you are on the water. Great fun.

As a solo traveler it’s always fun doing tours and meeting all different kinds of people from all over. It was the perfect day to do the tour and the sunset was absolutely beautiful.

Fantastic Evening Kayaking

My wife and I are late 60s, fit and active. We did the 2 hour sunset tour and had Joe as our guide We had a blast! Joe was absolutely wonderful. You can see he genuinely cares about the guests. He involves everyone and makes sure the pace and activity level works best for the group. If water/weather contact unsafe he will adjust as needed. We honestly felt like he was a friend we had know for a long time with him. The tour itself was just right for us. I do have hip arthritis but Joe was great and helping me maneuver in/out of the kayak. We went out to a couple of islands, saw some wildlife while he told us about the history of the area. Best of all was the return trip at sunset. Absolutely beautiful To us this was a def 5 star evening. For someone who wants more aggressive kayaking maybe it’s not. But it’s still a beautiful area to explore Lastly, free parking is available, there is a beautiful park area to sit and relax.
