Temple of Poseidon

Our tour starts with a wonderful drive along the Athens Rivera. During this relaxing ride, you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athens’ most beautiful suburbs, including Hellinikon Olympic complex, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza. Arriving at the Cape Sounion, you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey, as the last safe landing before Poseidon scattered the returning Greek navy. As god of the sea, Poseidon was very important for ancient Greeks, and the scale of the Temple at Cape Sounion reflects that. Reach Cape Sounion and explore the 5th century BC Temple of Poseidon at your own pace and enjoy 1 hour of free time inside the archaeological site as the sun disappears beneath the horizon.

Very nice tour guide and bus driver. Buses very comfortable. A Nice 1.5 hour drive to the temple with plenty of time to watch sunset and take beautiful pictures of the area.

It was a beautiful tour. The temple of Poseidon is awesome and to see it during the sunset was just breathtaking. Our tour guide was super nice and had alot of interesting stories about this place. Definitely worth the trip.

This tour was well worth it. Our guide was nice and we enjoyed the trip. Photo opportunities were plentiful. It would have been nice to have more time there to enjoy the sunset and then have dinner at the restaurant. There wasn’t time for both. Nice trip, but eat before or take a snack if you don’t want a late meal when you get back to Athens.

A beautiful spot for photos at sunset. The tour guide, Christina, was lovely but the staff based at the operator, Key Tours were rude. Be sure to double check your pick up time if you are being picked up from your hotel. We were NOT given the pick up time. The pickup person called our room at the hotel and then left without waiting for us to come down, stating we were late. We had to make our own way to Key Tours’ office, from where the tour left. The staff in the office argued with us about what had happened. Not a great way to start off the tour.
