Itinerary

  • Old Fortress Corfu (Pass By)

Our accredited guide will meet you in front of the Old Fortress at the statue of Schulemburg and after she gives you some information from outside about the monument you will continue your tour in the historical center.

  • Spianada Square (Pass By)

The central square of Spianada is the most significant monument of the town. The name derives from the Venetian word for an "open flat area" and it is said that it is the largest square in the Balkans. Liston which is part of the square houses some of the finest cafes and restaurants in Corfu. The French were the ones who turned the Spianada into a public square. Before the nineteenth century, it used to be a large empty lot used for defensive purposes. Cricket matches are played on the Esplanade, the only place in Greece where the sport is played.

  • Corfu Museum of Asian Art (Pass By)

The Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George is located on the northern part of the Corfu town historical centre square. It is the largest and the most significant building of the English rule period, which started in 1814 and ended in 1864 when the Ionian Islands were reunified with the rest of Greece. They were built at the request of the British Lord High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Maitland, to become his own luxurious residence and to house the High Commissionerā€™s administrative headquarters. Today, it houses the Corfu Museum of Asian Arts, the only one of its kind in Greece, solely dedicated to the art and antiquities of the Far East and India. It was founded in 1928 and its collection currently is comprising approximately 15.000 works of Asian art and it enjoys worldwide recognition, with rare items from its collections being presented in international exhibitions.

During our tour we will also visit the church of Saint Spyridon, the patron saint of the island and a miracle worker.

As we are walking among the narrow streets we will pass by the Town Hall Square of Corfu, once the exclusive Venetian neighborhood with the opera house and the villas around it. We will admire the town hall building which was used at first as a club for the noblemen and later in 1720, the building hosted the Noble Theatre of Saint Giacomo of Corfu. Finally, in 1903 it was turned into a Town Hall.

    30 minutes

  • Jewish Synagogue (Pass By)

The Jewish quarter, the old Venetian ā€œghettoā€ that is still called Evraiki in Greek today, stretched across the southeast section of the city, near the Venetian fortifications. It was criss-crossed with alleyways lined with faded, multistoried houses, as in Venice. The ghetto lost its urban unity due to bombardments during the Second World War.

The best food and history and culture and architecture tour ever!

One of the best tours ever! Naftika is such a knowledgeable and friendly guide, who integrates the. history of Corfu, nature and agriculture, society norms and changes, and foods and culinary arts so seamlessly together. The variety of food and drink, the number of stops at small local food venues, and the amount of food were all way beyond my expectations! You will definitely get your money's worth in terms of the food and our guide, Naftika. I especially enjoyed the brunch, the spice shop, the charcuterie tray, and the lunch, but there were even more tasting stops (kumquats and candies and limoncello and kumquat-cello, olive oil tasting, ...). We visited the French-inspired part of town, the Venetian-influenced sections, the Jewish quarter, expensive apartment streets, poorer neighborhoods, and so much more. Since the 3 of us on the tour were under no time constraints, Naftika and we had a leisurely huge lunch (included in the price) where we all got to know each other and appreciated some aspects of our lives and families from the 3 different cultures we represented. What a lovely experience, ending with hugs and wishes for one another's futures.. Thank you, Naftika, from Charlotte and David.

Alice was a wonderful tour guide! She combined food tasting with historical and cultural facts. She has a wonderful, energetic personality that made the tour a lot of fun.

Excellent experience with Corfu Food & Cultural Tour.

This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Electra (her Greek name, Ilektra) was friendly & knowledgeable in explaining the history & cultures of the island. The food tasting experience was great as we were pleasantly surprised with lots of yummy treats & lunch. She did not hurry us as we took longer to shop in the spice shop. She was very personable throughout the tour & took extra time to give us tips on where to explore Corfu for our next few days on the island. Thank you, Electra! Will recommend this tour - āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø

Informative and sensual experience on this food and culture Corfu walking tour.

The tour was a great introduction to Corfu tradition and food. Ilektra or Electra is a very good guide, introducing us to the history and traditions of Corfu. My friend and I especially love the food stops - there were 5 including lunch! We didnā€™t know our lunch includes a glass of wine. We are not much of a wine drinker or at least me. The tour was value for money. I also appreciated the tour company chooses small family business for our food stops. Ilektra was very patient and attentive to our questions. She is also very helpful.
