Overview

Travelers come to the island of Mont Saint-Michel to visit the legendary medieval abbey. To get to it, you must pass through the surrounding walled town. Our audio guide will show you the way to the abbey and tell you about the island's history along the way. You will learn about sites including: Museums, Other churches, The cemetery, Lookouts, Legendary restaurants, Medieval fortifications on the island. The audio commentary was written by a professional historian, lifting the veil of mystery over the creation and popularity of Mont Saint-Michel Abbey. You won't get lost in the narrow streets, a handy offline map in the app will guide you. Walk at your own pace, without a tour group. The route passes by the abbey, and you can visit it on your own if you wish (visiting the abbey is not included in this tour). The walk ends at the castle wall, and from there you can go for a walk along the bottom of the bay or relax in the restaurant.

You go along a one-way route (?350 stair steps) up to the cathedral at the top, then down (past the human-powered wheel that lifted materials when MSM was a prison) through various chambers and out into the village. We got galettes (hearty pancakes) at one of the restaurants: not too long of a wait for a busy time of year! Don’t go in July or August if you have a choice.
